Jimmy McGeough
Jimmy McGeough (born 13 August 1944) is a Northern Irish former football player and manager. Playing and coaching career His clubs included Derry City, Lincoln and Waterford United. Joining Derry in July 1963 he was part of the only Derry City side ever to win the Irish League (Northern Ireland) and was an Irish Cup winner too with the Candystripes. He scored in the European Cupbr> McGeough played his last game for Derry at Coleraine on 9 October 1965 bringing an end to a remarkable sequence of never having missed a single match for Derry since his arrival in July 1963. Derry withdrew from the Irish League in 1973 due to civil unrest. He signed for Waterford from Derry in December 1965 for £3,000 and was part of the great Waterford side of the 1960s and 1970s. Texaco Cup
The Texaco Cup, officially known as the International League Board Competition, was an association football competition started in 1970, involving sides from England, Scotland, and Ireland that had not qualified for European competitions. It was one of the first football competitions to receive sponsorship, taking the name of American petroleum company Texaco for £100,000, and was instituted to help promote Texaco's recent purchase of the Regent filling station chain. Irish and Northern Irish clubs withdrew from the competition after 1971–72 due to political pressure, competing in a separate Texaco (All-Ireland) Cup in 1973–74 and 1974–75. League Of Ireland Shield
The League of Ireland Shield ( ga, Sciath Sraithe na hÉireann) is a defunct Irish football tournament which was introduced when the League of Ireland started in 1921 and ran uninterrupted until 1972. It was played before the league season began and was seen as the third most important trophy in Irish football, after the league and FAI Cup. The winners of the Shield gained entry to the following season's Inter-Cities Fairs Cup until 1971–72. It was played in a variety of formats; from complete round robin series to group stages followed by knock out games to complete knock out tournaments. It was replaced by the League of Ireland Cup in 1973, though returned for one season in 1983–84. The LOI Shield should not be confused with the League of Ireland First Division Shield, a competition that ran in the 1980s and 1990s and, as the name suggests, was confined to First Division clubs. Top Four Cup
The Top Four Cup was an association football super cup featuring the top four clubs in the League of Ireland. It was first held in 1955–56 and last played for in 1973–74. It was played at the end of the season. Shamrock Rovers were the inaugural winners and subsequently featured in seven finals. Waterford won the competition the most times, five times in total. The competition was sponsored by the ''Irish Independent'' and a result was also known as the Independent Cup. The cup was last won by Cork Celtic and is currently on display in the Evergreen Bar in Turners Cross, Cork. During the late 1960s the (Northern) Irish Football League also organised a Top Four Cup. Windsor Park is a football stadium in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It is the home ground of Linfield F.C. who own the land the stadium is built on, while the Irish Football Association own and operate the stadium and pay Linfield an annual rental fee for the use of the land on behalf of the Northern Ireland national football team. The Irish Football Association Challenge Cup, commonly referred to as the Irish Cup (currently known as the Samuel Gelston's Whiskey Irish Cup for sponsorship purposes) is the primary football knock-out cup competition in Northern Ireland. Inaugurated in 1881, it is the fourth-oldest national cup competition in the world. Larne Football Club is a professional Northern Irish football club based in Larne, County Antrim that play in the NIFL Premiership. History The club was founded in 1889 and plays its home matches at Inver Park. The club's colours are red and white, and the club's greatest rivals are Ballyclare Comrades and Carrick Rangers; their matches are known as "The East Antrim Derby". Neale Michael Charles Fenn (born 18 January 1977) is a former professional footballer who is also the former manager of League of Ireland clubs Longford Town and Cork City. Club career Early career Fenn played for Tottenham Hotspur, making his professional debut in January 1997 in a third round FA Cup tie at Manchester United alongside Rory Allen, which Spurs lost 2–0. He made his league debut, as a substitute in a 2–1 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday in April 1997. Daryl Murphy
Daryl Michael Murphy (born 15 March 1983) is an Irish former professional footballer. Murphy began his career at Waterford United, having previously played youth football for Waterford based side Southend United and English side Luton Town, whilst also spending a brief spell on loan at Harrow Borough in 2002. After a three year spell at Waterford he signed for Sunderland in 2005. Murphy went on to make over 100 appearances for Sunderland, whilst also spending time out on loan with Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich Town, before joining Scottish side Celtic in 2010.
