Jimmy Allan (footballer, Born 1896)
Jimmy Allan (29 June 1896 – 19 May 1982) was a Scottish football player and manager. He played for East Fife, Cowdenbeath and Falkirk, and managed Dundee United. Early life Jimmy Allan was born in Cowdenbeath, Fife in 1896. Playing career Allan played junior football for Glencraig Celtic before going on to a brief playing career with East Fife, Cowdenbeath and Falkirk. He also played for Dundee's reserve team as a trialist. A part-time footballer, Allan was also a professional sprinter. Management career He became Dundee United manager in 1939. Charlie McGillivray
Charles McGillivray (5 July 1912 – 7 November 1986) was a Scottish footballer and manager. His position was inside forward ( winger). Career Having previously played for Manchester United in England, and for Ayr United, Celtic, Motherwell and Dundee in Scotland (followed by several guest spells during World War II), McGillivray was playing for Dundee United when he accepted the offer to become manager in November 1944. The club's youngest ever manager, McGillivray was in charge for eleven months, resigning in late 1945 when it was announced the club were looking for somebody from outside to manage. McGillivray had the misfortune to preside over United's record home defeat (albeit in an unofficial wartime competition), a 9–1 loss to Aberdeen in February 1945. North Eastern League (Scotland)
The North Eastern League was a regional Scottish football competition held during the Second World War, due to the suspension of the Scottish Football League. Held between 1941 and 1945 (an interim nationwide War Emergency League was played in the 1939–40 season followed by one year of hiatus), the competition was played in two stages each season (autumn and spring), with bonus points awarded in the second stage: initially, for teams with higher aggregate scores over the two series; latterly, for away draws/wins. Some reserve teams from the bigger clubs competing in the other region, the Southern League, entered the North Eastern League, with the Rangers 'A' team winning both stages in the first season.
