Jimmy Lanigan
James Lanigan (20 April 1910 – 9 March 1992) was an Irish hurling, hurler. At club level he played with Thurles Sarsfields GAA, Thurles Sarsfields and was the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, All-Ireland Championship-winning captain with the Tipperary senior hurling team in 1937 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, 1937. Playing career Lanigan first came to prominence at inter-county level as a member of the Tipperary junior team in 1929 before being drafted onto the senior side for the 1930 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship#Munster Senior Hurling Championship, 1930 Munster Championship. Thurles Sarsfields GAA
Thurles Sarsfields is a Tipperary GAA club which is located in County Tipperary, Ireland. Both hurling and Gaelic football are played in the "Mid-Tipperary" divisional competitions. The club is centred in the town of Thurles at Semple Stadium. The club was founded in 1881 and is the most honoured club in the history of the county championship with 36 County Titles. Railway Cup
The GAA Interprovincial Championship ( ga, An Corn Idir-Chúigeach) or Railway Cup (''Corn an Iarnróid'') is the name of two annual Gaelic football and hurling competitions held between the provinces of Ireland. The Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster GAA teams are composed of the best players from the counties in each province. The games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The Railway Cup was a revival of the Railway Shield which ran from 1905 to 1907 (football) and from 1905 to 1908 (hurling). The first Railway Cup competitions (the name is due to the donation of the trophy by Irish Rail) were held in 1927, with Munster winning the first football title and Leinster winning the first hurling title. Phil Purcell (hurler)
Phil Purcell (13 November 1902 – 2 February 1961) was an Irish hurler who played for his local club Moycarkey–Borris and at senior level for the Tipperary county team from 1926 until 1937. Playing career Club Purcell played his club hurling with his local club Moycarkey–Borris and enjoyed much success. He won his first senior county title in 1932. It was the first of four county victories for Purcell, the other three coming in 1934, 1937 and 1940. Inter-county Purcell began his inter-county hurling career at a time when there was no minor hurling championship. He first came to prominence with the Tipperary junior team in the early 1920s. He was captain of the team in 1924 as Tipp captured the Munster junior title. Purcell later captured an All-Ireland junior title as Tipperary defeated Galway in the final. Paddy Ryan (hurler)
Paddy "Sweeper" Ryan (1 April 1912 – 31 December 1991) was an Irish hurler who played as a left corner-forward for the Tipperary senior team. Ryan made his first appearance for the team during the 1934 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement after the 1945 championship. 1938 Railway Cup Hurling Championship
The 1938 Railway Cup Hurling Championship was the 12th series of the Railway Cup, an annual hurling championship organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The championship took place between 20 February and 17 March 1938. It was contested by Connacht, Leinster and Munster. Munster entered the championship as the defending champions. On 17 March 1938, Munster won the Railway Cup after a 6-02 to 4-03 defeat of Leinster in the final at Croke Park, Dublin. It was their 8th Railway Cup title overall and their second in succession.
