Jimmy Dennigan
James "Jimmy" Dennigan (1939 – 2012) was a Gaelic footballer, Hurling, hurler, coach and referee from County Cork. A member of the Fermoy GAA, Fermoy club, he refereed the 1986 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final, as well as numerous other important games. At the time of his death he was one of only six Corkmen to have refereed an All-Ireland SFC final. Career Sportsman Jimmy Dennigan played for the Cork GAA minor team in 1956 and was the centre half-back in 1957. He was an Avondhu GAA, Avondhu senior player in 1958 and also played for Cork that year again. In 1959 he was left half-back on the Fermoy team that won the Kelleher Shield. Later, an injury that he got in 1960 forced his retirement from playing, but he still managed to feature for the Fermoy junior hurlers in 1964's North Cork JHC final and replay victory against Ballyhea in Kildorrery. Gaelic Athletic Association
The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. The National Football League (NFL; ga, Sraith Náisiúnta Peile) is an annual Gaelic football competition between the senior county teams of Ireland plus London. Sponsored by Allianz, it is officially known as the Allianz National Football League. The Gaelic Athletic Association organises the league. The winning team receives the New Ireland Cup, presented by the New Ireland Assurance Company. The National Football League is the second most prestigious inter-county Gaelic Football competition after the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship. Fermoy Hurlers
Fermoy () is a town on the River Blackwater in east County Cork, Ireland. As of the 2016 census, the town and environs had a population of approximately 6,500 people. Dual Players
Dual player or dual star is a term used in Hiberno-English to describe someone who competes in multiple sports — for example, in Victorian Ireland, cricket and hurling. The term today in Gaelic games typically describes a male player who plays both Gaelic football and hurling or, if a female player, a player of ladies' Gaelic football and camogie. The player does not necessarily have to play at the same standard in both sports. The number of dual stars at county level has decreased recently due to the increasing demands placed upon the best players of both sports. Curraheen Park Greyhound Stadium is a greyhound racing track located in Bishopstown, west of Cork, County Cork, Ireland. Youghal Greyhound Stadium is a greyhound racing track located south of Youghal, County Cork, Ireland. The stadium is ten minutes walk from the town centre. History On 30 July 1948 a greyhound called Hackles Spring won the first ever race at Youghal. The seaside track on the Upper Strand was run by the Youghal Racing Company before rásaíocht con éireann took over in 1972. The circuit is 464 yards in circumference and the track originally raced on Tuesday and Friday nights. Finbarr Coleman was racing manager for thirty years, from 1972 until 2002. Franciscan College Gormanston is a school operated and managed by the Irish province of the Franciscans, Order of the Friars Minor. The college operates under the trusteeship of the Minister Provincial and Definitory of the Franciscan Province of Ireland.
