Jim Wells (baseball Coach)
Jim Wells (born March 21, 1955) is an American college baseball coach, formerly the head coach at Northwestern State and Alabama. Overall, in 18 seasons as a Division 1 head coach, he compiled a 714–335 record. In 18 seasons, he won five regular season conference titles, eight post-season conference championships, as well as 13 of 17 tournament appearances. Three of his teams advanced to the College World Series. Wells guided the Crimson Tide to NCAA tournament appearances in 10 out of his 12 seasons there. His teams also won the SEC tournament six times. In 1996, and 2002, he won the SEC Coach of the Year awards. On September 1, 2009, Wells officially announced his retirement as head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide baseball program. Wells retired after 15 seasons as head coach of the Crimson Tide, posting a 625–322 (.656) overall record during his tenure. LSU Tigers Baseball
The LSU Tigers baseball team represents Louisiana State University in NCAA Division I college baseball. The team participates in the West Division of the Southeastern Conference. It ranks seventh overall with 18 College World Series appearances and second all-time with six national championships (1991, 1993, 1996, 1997, 2000, and 2009). Alabama Crimson Tide Baseball
The Alabama Crimson Tide baseball team represents the University of Alabama in NCAA Division I college baseball. Along with most other Alabama athletic teams, the baseball team participates in the Western Division of the Southeastern Conference. The team plays its home games on campus at Sewell–Thomas Stadium. History The Crimson Tide baseball team leads the SEC in all-time wins with over 2,500 victories. The program trails only LSU for the most SEC regular season titles with 13 and 7 tournament championships. Tide baseball teams have participated in the NCAA College World Series five times ( 1950, 1983, 1996, 1997, 1999), finishing second in 1983 and 1997. College Baseball
College baseball is baseball that is played on the intercollegiate level at institutions of higher education. In comparison to football and basketball, college competition in the United States plays a smaller role in developing professional players, as baseball's professional minor leagues are more extensive, with a greater history of supplying players to MLB. Moving directly from high school to the professional level is more common in baseball than in football or basketball. However, if players do opt to enroll at a four-year college to play baseball, they must complete three years to regain professional eligibility, unless they reach age 21 before starting their third year of college. Players who enroll at junior colleges (i.e., two-year institutions) regain eligibility after one year at that level. College World Series
The College World Series (CWS), officially the NCAA Men's College World Series (MCWS), is an annual baseball tournament held in June in Omaha, Nebraska. The MCWS is the culmination of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Baseball Championship tournament—featuring 64 teams in the first round—which determines the NCAA Division I college baseball champion. The eight participating teams are split into two, four-team, double-elimination brackets, with the winners of each bracket playing in a best-of-three championship series. Mitch Gaspard
Mitch Gaspard (born May 26, 1965) is an American college baseball coach and former second baseman. He is the hitting coach and recruiting coordinator at Louisiana Tech University. Gaspard played college baseball at Louisiana State University from 1984 to 1985 before transferring to the University of Houston where he played from 1986 to 1987. He is the former head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide baseball team. Gaspard agreed to a 3-year contract on September 1, 2009, starting in 2010. The 2010 season was Gaspard's first season as the head coach of the Crimson Tide. He had been on the Alabama coaching staff for ten years, and was given the head coaching position when Jim Wells retired. He resigned from Alabama on May 30, 2016.
