Jim Vukich
James R. Vukich (December 15, 1945 – August 6, 2002) was an American curler and two-time national champion. Career Vukich curled while growing up in Minnesota, even winning the Minnesota schoolboy curling state title in 1963. He later stepped away from the sport for a while, until picking it back up while living in Seattle. He then went on to, as skip of his team, win four Washington state championships and two national championships, the latter in 1987 and 1989. Vukich defeated the defending champion Steve Brown to win his first national title in 1987. At the 1987 World Men's Championship they missed the playoffs when they lost a tiebreaker to Germany's Rodger Schmidt, leaving Team Vukich in fifth place in the final standings. Also in 1987 Vukich competed at the first United States Olympic Curling Trials, to decide the team that would represent the United States at the 1988 Winter Olympics where curling would be a demonstration sport. Chisholm, Minnesota
Chisholm is a city in St. Louis County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 4,976 at the 2010 census. The city has been called "The Heart of the Iron Range" due to its location in the middle of the Mesabi Iron Range. History The city was named for its founder, Archibald Mark Chisholm (1862–1933), a mining man and investor from Glengarry County, Ontario, Canada. Chisholm was incorporated in 1901. A post office called Chisholm has been in operation since 1901. With a railroad line to Duluth and plenty of mining work available in and near town, Chisholm's population grew rapidly, and by 1908 it had more than 6,000 people and 500 buildings. On September 5, 1908, a fast-moving forest fire obliterated the town due to dry conditions and the wooden construction of nearly all the town's buildings. Many people escaped by going into the lake. Jason Larway
Jason Larway (born March 23, 1970) is an American curler from Lynnwood, Washington. He is a and a four-times United States men's curling champion (1989, 1992, 2001, 2004). In addition to representing the United States at the , winning the National Championship in 2001 should have qualified Larway to compete at the 2001 United States Olympic Curling Trials but the entire team was deemed ineligible because, as a Canadian living in the United States, teammate Greg Romaniuk was eligible for the National Championship but not for the Olympics. Larway instead attempted to earn a spot at the Trials through the National Olympic Qualifier, which he gained entry to through the Washington State Regional Qualifier. But he had to miss the National Qualifier because it occurred at the same time as the 2001 World Men's Championship.
