Jim Turnour
James Pearce Turnour (born 7 April 1966) is a former Australian politician. He represented the Queensland seat of Leichhardt in the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2010, as a member of the Australian Labor Party (ALP). He was a public servant in Queensland's agriculture department prior to entering parliament. Early life Turnour was born on 7 April 1966 in Darwin, Northern Territory. He is the third of four children born to Joan () and John Turnour; his mother was a Ten Pound Pom. He grew up on his parents' mixed farming property at Coomalie Creek. Turnour boarded at Brisbane Grammar School. He holds the degrees of Bachelor of Agricultural Science and Bachelor of Economics from the University of Queensland. Prior to entering parliament he worked for Queensland's Department of Primary Industries for 20 years and also as an agricultural consultant. The Division of Leichhardt is an Australian Electoral Division in Queensland. Geography Since 1984, federal electoral division boundaries in Australia have been determined at redistributions by a redistribution committee appointed by the Australian Electoral Commission. Redistributions occur for the boundaries of divisions in a particular state, and they occur every seven years, or sooner if a state's representation entitlement changes or when divisions of a state are malapportioned. History The division was first contested in 1949 after the expansion of seats in the Parliament of Australia. It is one of Australia's largest electorates, covering an area stretching from Cairns to Cape York and the Torres Strait, including the Torres Strait Islands. Jan Elizabeth McLucas (born 27 March 1958) is a former Australian politician. McLucas was an Australian Labor Party member of the Australian Senate representing Queensland from 1999 to 2016. McLucas was the Minister for Human Services in the Rudd Government till the 2013 Election. Background and early career McLucas was born in Atherton, Queensland, and received her primary schooling in Ravenshoe, in Far North Queensland; her secondary schooling at the private Clayfield College in Brisbane, and further education at the Townsville College of Advanced Education (now James Cook University). Trinity Inlet
The Trinity Inlet is an oceanic inlet which serves as the port for the city of Cairns, Queensland, Australia. The city centre is on the western bank where the inlet meets the Coral Sea. Location and features The Trinity Inlet is located in the original delta of the Mulgrave River, which since the Pleistocene flows to a mouth further south. This is because Volcanic activity which resulted in the rise of Green Hill near the Mulgrave Valley, did not block the river, as sediments from more local streams continued to build up over the volcanic rocks. The Mulgrave River enters the sea at Russell Heads, approximately 30 km south of Trinity Inlet. It is unlikely that a river would shift its course and add a further 30km to its length before entering the sea. This is because the river would then adopt a shallower gradient and lose efficiency in transporting sediment.
