James Shepherd (born 1940) is a former Australian professional tennis player. Career In 1962, he was defeated by Premjit Lall in the second round at the Australian Championships in men's singles. He also defeated Peter McPherson in the first round by the third section In the same year he reached the first with Jimmy Tattersall and second round with Roger Taylor at the 1962 Wimbledon Championships. In 1964 he reached the second round again with Gary Cruth at the Australian Open. Premjit Lall
Premjit Lall (20 October 1940 – 31 December 2008) was an Indian professional tennis player from Kolkata, who was active during the 1960s and 70s. Tennis career Lall started his tennis career on the grass courts of the Calcutta South Club where he was coached by Dilip Bose. Together with Jaidip Mukerjea and Ramanathan Krishnan they were called the Three Musketeers of Indian tennis. Lall was a runner-up at the Boyss Singles event at the 1958 Wimbledon Championships, losing the final to Butch Buchholz. At the 1969 Wimbledon Championships Lall nearly caused a significant upset when he was leading first-seeded and world No. 1 Rod Laver by two sets to love in the second round but ultimately lost in five sets to Laver, who went on to win the title and his second Grand Slam. Jimmy Tattersall
James Irvine Tattersall (27 March 1940 – 4 February 1997) was a British professional tennis player who became active from mid-1950s to early-1960s. Career Tattersall defeated Ivo Ribeiro of Brazil in the boys' singles final at the Wimbledon Championships in 1957 in straight sets. He also won the boys' doubles and became the youngest British No. 1 in junior tennis. In the same year, he was a member of the Duffield Lawn Tennis Club first tennis team. During the previous year, 1956 and as a 16 year–old, Tattersall also won the boys' doubles as well as the junior mixed doubles titles at Wimbledon. Apart from Wimbledon, Tattersall also participated at the 1960 U.S. National Championships, where he was defeated by Roy Emerson in the first round in straight sets. Roger Taylor (tennis)
Roger Taylor MBE (born 14 October 1941) is a British former tennis player. Born in Sheffield, West Riding of Yorkshire, he won 6 singles titles and 10 doubles titles during his career. He achieved success at several Grand Slam tournaments, reaching the quarter-finals of the French Open in 1973, the semi-finals of Wimbledon during the same year and winning back to back US Open Men's Doubles titles in 1971 and 1972. He also enjoyed particular success in 1970, again reaching the semi-finals of Wimbledon, where he achieved a big upset win over defending champion Rod Laver en route, and the semi-finals of the Australian Open. Taylor also reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon in 1967. His career-high ATP singles ranking was World No. 11, though Taylor was ranked World No. 8 in 1970 before the ATP rankings began. John Newcombe
John David Newcombe AO OBE (born 23 May 1944) is an Australian former professional tennis player. He is one of the few men to have attained a world No. 1 ranking in both singles and doubles. At the majors, he won seven singles titles, a former record 17 men's doubles titles, and two mixed doubles titles. He also contributed to five Davis Cup titles for Australia during an age when the Davis Cup was deemed as significant as the majors.
