James Osborne (politician)
James Osborne (24 September 1845 – 11 April 1877) was an Australian politician. He was born at Marshall Mount near Wollongong to Henry Osborne and Sarah Marshall. He advocated for pastoralism on the Murrumbidgee River before entering politics. In 1869 he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for Illawarra, a seat his brother Patrick had already represented from 1864 to 1866. Their father had been a member of New South Wales Legislative Council (1851-1856) and Legislative Assembly (1856-57). James Osborne (VC)
James Osborne VC (13 April 1857 – 1 February 1928) was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Osborne was 23 years old, and a private in the 2nd Battalion, The Northamptonshire Regiment, British Army during the First Boer War when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC. On 22 February 1881 at Wesselstroom, South Africa, Private Osborne rode out under heavy fire, picked up a private who was lying wounded and carried him safely into camp. James Osborne (died 23 December 2002) was an Australian soccer player who played as a left midfielder. Club career Osborne began playing with Plattsburg School. In 1929 Osborne joined Wallsend. Jamie Osborne (born James Anthony Osborne 28 August 1967) is a Lambourn-based racehorse trainer and former National Hunt jockey. Jockey Osborne grew up in Yorkshire. His father Tony Osborne was a director of Market Rasen Racecourse and Osborne rode ponies from a young age. He rode for a couple of seasons as an amateur for stables in Yorkshire, his first winner being Fair Bavard for Harry Wharton at Southwell on 29 March 1986. In 1987 he moved south to Nicky Henderson's Lambourn stables and took out a professional licence. In 1989, having completed two seasons as a professional jockey, Osborne was appointed stable jockey to Oliver Sherwood when the latter's brother Simon retired. The first major win for the partnership came with Arctic Call in the 1990 Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury.
