James Mills (ship Owner)
Sir James Mills (30 July 1847 – 23 January 1936) was a New Zealand businessman and politician. He founded the Union Steam Ship Company in Dunedin in 1875. Biography Mills was born in Wellington and raised in Dunedin. He worked for Johnny Jones, starting as a shop assistant and working his way up to managing Jones' Harbour Steam Company. After Jones' death in 1869 he became the leading trustee of his estate. Between 1869 and 1871 he built up a shareholding in the Harbour Steam Company until he was able to control the company. He floated the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand in 1875 with backing from Scottish shipbuilder Peter Denny in return for orders for his Dumbarton shipyard. The Union Company (as it was known) became a major shipping line, with a near-monopoly on trans-Tasman shipping, and was referred to as the "Southern Octopus". By 1914 it had 75 ships. James Henry Mills
James Henry Mills (May 2, 1923 – November 11, 1973) was the only Polk County, Florida native to receive the Medal of Honor in World War II. He joined the Army from his birth city in September 1943. Private Mills earned the Medal of Honor in 1944 for demonstrating "conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty." Mills actions allowed his platoon to take its objective without casualties. Mills lost his life twenty-nine years later at the hands of a thief posing as a stranded motorist, whom Mills had stopped to assist, near Gainesville, Florida on November 11, 1973. James Mills (born 1932) is an American novelist, screenwriter and journalist. Mills wrote two '' New York Times'' bestsellers, '' Report to the Commissioner'', a novel, and '' The Underground Empire'', a study of international narcotics trafficking. His books ''The Panic in Needle Park'' and ''Report to the Commissioner'' were later made into major motion pictures by 20th Century Fox and United Artists respectively. The credibility of The Underground Empire was challenged in a lengthy front-page article in the Los Angeles Times. James Philip Mills CSI, CIE, FRAI (1890 – 1960) was a member of the Indian Civil Service and an ethnographer. Early years James Philip Mills was born on 18 February 1890, younger son of James Edward Mills and his wife Ada Smith. He was educated at Windlesham House School, Winchester College (1903–1908) and Corpus Christi College, Oxford (1909–1912). Career In 1913 Mills joined the Indian Civil Service and was posted to Assam Province. During the First World War he served as a trooper in the Jumna Valley Light Horse. Jim Mills (gridiron Football)
James Anthony Mills (born September 23, 1961) is a former gridiron football offensive lineman. After graduating from Richmond Senior Secondary School in 1979, he played for the University of Hawaii before playing 2 years in the National Football League for the Baltimore/Indianapolis Colts. While attending the University, Jim was trained in powerlifting by strength mentor Karl Holfeld. After his NFL career he headed to the Canadian Football League, where he played numerous seasons including with his hometown team the BC Lions. He won the CFL's Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman Award in 1990 and 1991.
