Jim Meehan (bartender)
James Michael Meehan (March 19, 1952 – December 6, 2018), sometimes known as Minneapolis Jim Meehan, was an American professional poker player from Burnsville, Minnesota. Prior to his poker career, Meehan worked as a lawyer for many years. Meehan began playing poker in the 1960s, and began playing poker tournaments regularly in 1997, when he had a second-place finish in the $3,000 limit hold'em event at the World Series of Poker (WSOP). He finished third in the $2,500 limit Omaha event at the 1999 WSOP. He eventually won a WSOP bracelet in 2003 in the $2,000 no limit hold'em event, defeating a final table that included Juha Helppi, Antonio Esfandiari, Mike Sexton and Kathy Liebert. He won a World Championship of Online Poker bracelet that same year in the $500 Buy In Limit Holdem event, besting a field of almost 700. Gabriel Weston Kaplan (born March 31, 1945) is an American actor, comedian, and professional poker player. He played the eponymous teacher in the 1970s sitcom ''Welcome Back, Kotter''. He later became a professional poker player and a commentator for the series ''High Stakes Poker'' on PokerGO. Early life Kaplan was born in Brooklyn, New York City, to a Jewish family. He was a student at New Utrecht High School but did not graduate. Acting career As a child, Kaplan had aspirations of being a Major League Baseball player. However, he was unable to make the roster of a minor league team and decided to pursue other interests. He began working as a bellman at a hotel in Lakewood, New Jersey. James Gibson Van Alstyne (born 1966 in Columbus, Georgia) is an American professional poker player based in Las Vegas, Nevada. Van Alstyne grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana, and he graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School. After high school, Van Alstyne attended Stanford University, where he learned to play poker. Van Alstyne was formerly employed as an engineer before becoming a professional blackjack player, using card-counting techniques to give himself an edge. He wears a baseball cap to disguise himself from casino security, and continues to wear the cap whilst playing poker. Ultimate Poker Challenge Season 1 Results
The Ultimate Poker Challenge (UPC) was a series of weekly poker tournaments acting as super-satellites into the series semi-finals. The first and second seasons are available on NTSC DVD. In the United States, it was a syndicated program. Format Players are entitled to enter multiple super-satellite tournaments (entry into the semi-finals is transferable.) Players can also qualify for the semi-finals based on the points leaderboard for their finishing position in each event.
