Jim Johnston (English Musician)
Jim Johnston is a musician from Bristol, England. Formerly one half of trip-hop band Monk & Canatella with Simon Russell in the 1990s. He now performs as a solo artist. He released his debut solo album, '' Voyage of Oblivion'' in 2012. The album featured guest vocals from Australian folk singer Emily Barker. In December 2014, he performed in Bristol with producer Marc Collin in his new project, providing guest vocals on the Monk and Canatella track, " I Can Water My Plants" In 2015, he released his second solo album, '' After All the Wishing…''. This time featuring guest vocals from Bristol post-punk musician Mark Stewart from The Pop Group. Monk & Canatella is an indie/breakbeat musical group from Bristol, England, formed by Simon Russell (born in 1973) and Jim Johnston (born 1975) in the mid-nineties. Their 1996 album on Cup of Tea Records, ''Care in the Community'', is a prime example of the trip hop sound. The band later moved to Telstar and released a second album, ''Do Community Service'' in 2000. The artwork for this album was an early collaboration with the Bristol born graffiti artist Banksy. The band parted company with the label shortly afterwards. Their song "Trout" appears on the original soundtrack for the 1996 film ''The Island of Dr. Moreau'', starring Marlon Brando Marlon Brando Jr. (April 3, 1924 – July 1, 2004) was an American actor. Emily Barker (born 2 December 1980) is an Australian singer-songwriter, musician and composer. Her music has featured as the theme to BBC dramas '' Wallander'' and '' The Shadow Line''. With multi-instrumental trio the Red Clay Halo, she recorded four albums: ''Photos.Fires.Fables.'' Marc Collin
Marc Collin is a French musician, film music composer and record producer. He is best known as the founder, with Olivier Libaux, of the project Nouvelle Vague, a cover band that covers new wave songs in a bossa nova style. Collin also released a side-project album in 2008 under his own name, titled ''Hollywood, mon amour'', consisting of covers, on the Nouvelle Vague formula, of songs from 1980s film soundtracks. Collin stated that he did not embark on the project out of nostalgia for the films, but because he was drawn to the challenge of transforming extremely well-known hits into intimate tracks. Collin has worked on several film soundtracks, notably that of 1998's '' Les Kidnappeurs'', directed by Graham Guit. Mark Stewart (born 28 April 1960) is an English singer and founding member of The Pop Group.Strong, Martin C. The Pop Group are an English rock band formed in Bristol in 1977 by vocalist Mark Stewart, guitarist John Waddington, bassist Simon Underwood, guitarist/saxophonist Gareth Sager, and drummer Bruce Smith.
