Jim Davies (footballer)
James Dalis Davies (6 December 1926 – 15 August 2010) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Swan Districts in the West Australian National Football League (WANFL) and Carlton in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Davies won a Sandover Medal with Swan Districts in 1944 and played with them until being recruited by Carlton for the 1949 season. After two seasons in the VFL he returned to Western Australia to play for Claremont. After retiring from playing football, he became involved in the administration of the game, culminating in becoming chairman of the WANFL in 1975. He was also the Director-General of the WA education department. James "Jim" Davies (born 23 February 1882 – 30 June 1971) was a Welsh rugby union, and professional rugby league footballer nicknamed "The Dancing Master" who played in the 1900s, 1910s and 1920s, and coached rugby league in the 1920s. Jim Davies is Professor of Software Engineering and current Director of the Software Engineering Programme at the University of Oxford, England. Biography Jim Davies studied mathematics at New College, Oxford, joining the Oxford University Computing Laboratory (now the Oxford University Department of Computer Science) in 1986 for a Masters' and Doctorate. After working as a researcher and lecturer in computer science, at Oxford, Reading, and Royal Holloway, University of London, he became a lecturer in software engineering at Oxford in 1995. He has led the Software Engineering Programme since 2000, and was made Professor of Software Engineering in 2006. Jim Davies is an American/Canadian cognitive scientist, playwright, artist, and author. He received his bachelor's degree in philosophy from the State University of New York at Oswego, his masters in psychology and his Ph.D. in computer science from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is a full professor of Cognitive Science at the Institute of Cognitive Science and the School of Computer Science at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario where he is the director of the Science of Imagination Laboratory. James Donald Davies (born 18 October 1973) is the former live and studio guitarist for English band The Prodigy. He is also a former member of Pitchshifter. Career The Prodigy and Pitchshifter (1995–2002) Davies first played live with The Prodigy in 1995, including that year's Glastonbury Festival. After a year of touring worldwide with the band, he contributed to their ''The Fat of the Land'' album. This included playing guitar on the subsequent single releases " Firestarter" and " Breathe". In 2010, ''Total Guitar'' magazine voted Davies' "Firestarter" riff as one of the top 10 guitar riffs of all time. Jimmy Davies (RAF Officer)
James William Elias Davies, (1913 – 27 June 1940) was an American combat fighter pilot who was the first American-born airman to die in combat in World War II. Davies was shot down and killed on 27 June 1940. Although born in the United States, his family moved to Wales before the start of the war. As such, he appears in official records as being British. Royal Air Force service Davies joined the Royal Air Force in 1936 and by 1939 was flying the Hawker Hurricane monoplane fighter with No. 79 Squadron RAF at RAF Biggin Hill. The squadron was soon in action after the outbreak of World War II and by the end of June 1940 Davies had already claimed six German aircraft shot down and two shared to become a flying ace.
