Jim Cullom
James Henry "Truck" Cullom (November 5, 1925 – March 4, 1998) was an American football guard in the National Football League (NFL) for the New York Yanks. Cullom served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. After the war, he played college football at the University of California, where he was a three-year lineman and placekicker from 1947–49, playing on two of coach Pappy Waldorf's Rose Bowl teams. Cullom was a first-team All-Coast tackle in 1949, and also played on Cal's rugby team. Cullom was drafted in the 24th round of the 1949 NFL Draft and again in the seventeenth round of the 1950 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins. Guard (American Football)
In gridiron football, a guard (G), otherwise known as an offensive guard (OG), is a player who lines up between the center and the tackles on the offensive line of a football team on the line of scrimmage used primarily for blocking. Right guards (RG) is the term for the guards on the right of the offensive line, while left guards (LG) are on the left side. Guards are to the right or left of the center. The guard's job is to protect the quarterback from the incoming linemen during pass plays, as well as creating openings (holes) for the running backs to head through. Guards are automatically considered ineligible receivers, so they cannot intentionally touch a forward pass, unless it is to recover a fumble or is first touched by a defender or eligible receiver.
