James Blair (Australian Judge)
Sir James William Blair (16 May 187018 November 1944) was an Australian politician, lawyer and judge. He was a successful politician, being elected to the Queensland Parliament on several occasions. He held the office of Attorney-General of Queensland and was also the Minister for Mines and introduced many successful law reforms measures in Queensland. In latter life, he took up an appointment as a judge of the Supreme Court of Queensland and went on to become the Chief Justice of that court. Blair took on many civic roles including that of Chancellor of the University of Queensland. His biographer states that Blair was thought of as a "dandy"Gill, J. C. James Blair (clergyman)
James Blair (1656 – 18 April 1743) was a clergyman in the Church of England. He was also a missionary and an educator, best known as the founder of the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. Youth and education James Blair was born Scotland, possibly in Edinburgh or in Banffshire. His parents were Peter Blair, minister of St Cuthbert's, Edinburgh, and Mary Hamilton Blair. He was educated at Marischal College, University of Aberdeen and the University of Edinburgh, where he received a Master of Arts degree. After completing his education, in 1679 he was ordained in the national Church of Scotland (known officially at this time as the ''Kirk of Scotland'', see kirk). During the entire 17th century the Kirk had been experiencing passionate internal conflicts between Presbyterians and Episcopalians (see, for example, the Bishops' Wars). Jimmy Blair (footballer, Born 1918)
James Alfred Blair (6 January 1918 – 1983) was a Scottish professional footballer. A forward, he was the son of Scottish international Jimmy Blair, Sr. and brother of Doug Blair. Career Blair began his professional career with Cardiff City in the 1930s, but after failing to break into the ''Bluebirds'' first team, he was transferred to Joe Smith's Blackpool in June 1935. He made his debut for the ''Tangerines'' in the third league game of the 1937–38 season, in a single-goal victory over Everton at Bloomfield Road on 4 September 1937. His strike partner, Bobby Finan, scored the goal. Blair went on to make a further twenty appearances in the league that campaign, scoring four goals in the process: two in a 4–2 victory at Brentford on 16 September, one in a 4–2 defeat in the following game at home to Leicester City two days later, and one in a 2–1 victory at Portsmouth on 23 October. Jimmy Blair (footballer, Born 1888)
James Blair (11 May 1888 – 28 February 1964) was a Scottish international footballer, probably most well known for playing in the 1925 FA Cup Final for Cardiff City. His sons, Doug and Jimmy Jr., were also professional footballers. Career Club Blair had played for Scottish junior sides Bonnybridge Thistle and Ashfield before being signed by Clyde in 1908. He helped the club reach two Scottish Cup Finals, attracting interest from several clubs around Britain. Sheffield Wednesday signed him in 1914 for a fee of £2,000. Unfortunately he struggled to ever make a big impact on the team due to various events. Soon after joining the club he was involved in a motorcycle crash that kept him out of the team for a long period and he had made just twenty appearances following his recovery when the Football League was suspended due to the outbreak of World War I. James Blair (13 January 1947 – 6 April 2011) was a Scottish professional footballer who played as a striker. Active between 1967 and 1977 in Scotland, England and Belgium, Blair made 158 appearances in the Scottish Football League and the Football League, scoring 65 goals. Born in Calderbank, Blair played youth football for Shotts Bon Accord before turning professional with St Mirren in 1967. Blair moved to Hibernian in 1970, before returning to St Mirren a year later. Blair played in England for Norwich City Norwich City Football Club (also known as The Canaries or The Yellows) is an English professional football club based in Norwich, Norfolk. James Hunter Blair (18 March 1926 – 25 December 2004) was a noted Scottish historic preservationist, landowner and forester. His family's estate, Blairquhan, is located near Straiton in South Ayrshire, Scotland. Early life Hunter-Blair was born in 1926 in Savoy House, Ayr, Scotland, the youngest son of Sir James Hunter Blair, 7th Baronet and his wife Jean Galloway McIntyre. His elder brother Edward succeeded to the Hunter-Blair baronetcy (created in 1786), upon the death of his father in 1985 and died on 21 October 2006. Career After education at Eton, Hunter-Blair served during World War II with the Scots Guards in Germany. Following demobilization in 1948, he attended Balliol College, Oxford, graduating with a degree in history and embarking initially on a career in merchant banking in London.
