Jihad Azour
Jihad Azour ( ar, جهاد أزعور), (born 4 May 1966), is a Lebanese economist and politician, he served as Lebanon's minister of finance under Fouad Saniora's government from 2005 to 2008. Education Azour obtained his PhD (with high honours) in International Finance from the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris (IEP) in France in 1996. While completing his PhD, he served as post doctoral fellow at Harvard University's Department of Economics researching the integration of emerging economies in the global economy. Azour also holds a post-graduate degree in International Economic and Finance (with honours), and a Master's in Applied Economics from Dauphine University, Paris, France. The thesis he wrote then was awarded the best student research in 1987 by INSEE (the French National Institute for Statistics and Economic Studies). Jean Obeid
Jean Obeid ( ar, جان عبيد; 8 May 19398 February 2021) was a Lebanese journalist and politician, who served in different cabinet posts, the last of which was foreign minister of Lebanon from 2003 to 2004. Early life Obeid hailed from a Maronite family. He was born in Alma, a village in the Zgharta district, on 8 May 1939. Career Obeid was a journalist by profession. He held several high-level positions in various newspapers and magazines. He was an advisor on Arab affairs to two former Lebanese Presidents, Elias Sarkis (1978-1982) and Amin Gemayel (1983-1987). Gemayel also appointed him special envoy to Syria. On 11 February 1987, Obeid met with Parliament Speaker Hussein Husseini and was kidnapped by nine gunmen in west Beirut. ''An-Nahar'' ( ar, النهار, lit=The Day or The Morning) is a leading Arabic-language daily newspaper published in Lebanon. In the 1980s, ''An-Nahar'' was described by the ''New York Times'' and ''Time Magazine'' as the newspaper of record for the entire Arab world. History and profile It was launched on 4 August 1933 as a four-page, hand-set paper. The paper, whose staff numbered five, including its founder Gebran Tueni, was started with a capital of 50 gold pieces raised from friends, and a circulation of a mere 500 copies.
