Jighansa
''Jighansa'' is a Bengali thriller film based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's ''The Hound of the Baskervilles'' released on 20 April 1951. It was directed by Ajoy Kar and musical scores are done by Hemant Kumar. Plot The movie revolves around the unwanted incidents that happen in the princely state Ratnagarh. After the murder of the king Chandrakanta, Dr. Palit asks for help from Detective Smarajit Sen, a family friend. Detective Sen sends his assistant Bimal to Ratnagarh to investigate and ascertain the security of young Kumar Bahadur, new predecessors of the royal family of the estate. They observe that a mysterious lady, Manjusri, sings uncanny song in the adjacent water body near the palace. Mr. Gupta, a suspicious botanist, stays in the neighbourhood also roamed in that locality. Manju Dey (7 May 1926 — 30 September 1989) was a Bengali actress and director. She received the award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role at the 25th Annual BFJA Awards for the film '' Carey Saheber Munshi'' in 1962. Career Dey was born in Baharampur, British India in 1926. Bikash Roy (16 May 1916 – 16 April 1987) was an Indian actor and filmmaker who is known for his work in Bengali cinema. He is well known for his character roles and for his own style of acting in Bengali films from the late 1940s until the mid-1980s. ''The Hound of the Baskervilles'' is the third of the four crime novels by British writer Arthur Conan Doyle featuring the detective Sherlock Holmes. Kamal Mitra was an Indian actor who appeared in more than 90 films spanning more than four decades. Along with Chhabi Biswas (1900–1962) and Pahari Sanyal (1906–1974) he dominated the Bengali silver screen as a character actor. Ajoy Kar (Bengali:অজয় কর; 27 March 1914 – 25 January 1985) was an Indian film director and cinematographer . He directed 26 films between 1949 and 1983. His 1961 film ''Saptapadi'' was entered into the 3rd Moscow International Film Festival. Ajoy Kar provided a whole new expression to Bengali cinema.
