The history of Gujarati literature ( gu, ગુજરાતી સાહિત્ય) may be traced to 1000 AD, and this literature has flourished since then to the present. It is unique in having almost no patronage from a ruling dynasty, other than its composers. Jhaverchand Meghani
Jhaverchand or Zaverchand Kalidas Meghani ( – ) was an Indian poet, writer, social reformer and freedom fighter. He is a well-known name in the field of Gujarati literature. He was born in Chotila where the Government College has been renamed for this literary figure as Raashtreeya Shaayar Zaverchand Meghani College, Chotila. Mahatma Gandhi spontaneously gave him the title of ''Raashtreeya Shaayar'' (National Poet). Besides this he received many awards like Ranjitram Suvarna Chandrak and ''Mahida Paaritoshik'' in literature. He authored more than 100 books. His first book was a translation work of Rabindranath Tagore's called ''Kathaa-u-Kaahinee'' titled ''Kurbani Ni Katha'' (Stories of martyrdom) which was first published in 1922. Hasu Yajnik
Hasmukhray Vrajlal Yajnik (12 February 193810 December 2020), better known as Hasu Yajnik, also spelled Hasu Yagnik was an Indian Gujarati language novelist, short story writer, critic, editor, folklorist and children's writer. Born and educated in Rajkot, he served as a professor of Gujarati in various government colleges in Gujarat. He had written twenty novels, three short story collections, two jail stories, four medieval story collections, criticism of four medieval works, and edited twelve folk works and six works of children's literature. Biography Yagnik was born on 12 February 1938 in Rajkot (now in Gujarat) to Vrajlal Yajnik and Pushpaben (Prasannaben). He was their eighth child. Joravarsinh Jadav
Joravarsinh Danubhai Jadav (born 10 January 1940) is an Indian folklorist and proponent of the folk arts from Gujarat. Exposed to folk culture as a child, he studied history and culture in Ahmedabad. He has written and edited more than 90 works on folk culture, folk literature, and folk arts. He established the Gujarat Lok Kala Foundation for the promotion of folk arts. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2019. He is also the current Vice-chairman of the Sangeet Natak Akademi.
