Jet (British Comic)
''Jet'' was a weekly British comics periodical published by Fleetway Publications from 1 May to 25 September 1971. A boys' adventure comic, the title only lasted for 22 editions before being merged with another Fleetway title, the long-established '' Buster''. Publishing history While IPC Magazines' previous attempt to launch a new boys' comic, ''Thunder'', had been short-lived and merged with '' Lion'' earlier in 1971 the experiment had not been a complete waste; ''Thunders new features had proven popular with readers, and given the post-merger ''Lion'' a sales boost. Under group director Jack Le Grand, the decision was taken to try another weekly as a testbed for new stories, which could then be folded into an extant title should the new arrival not find an audience. Wall's is a British ice cream and frozen dessert brand in United Kingdom owned by Unilever and is part of the Heartbrand global frozen dessert brand. Wall's also owns the rights to the Mr. Whippy soft-serve ice cream mix. History Wall's was founded in 1786 by Richard Wall, when he opened a butcher's stall in St James's Market, London. In the 1900s the business was led by Richard's grandson Thomas Wall II. Every year the company had to lay off staff in the summer as demand for its sausages, pies and meat fell, so in 1913 Thomas Wall II conceived the idea of making ice cream in the summer to avoid those lay-offs; the First World War meant that his idea was not implemented until 1922. The FIFA World Cup, often simply called the World Cup, is an international association football competition contested by the senior men's national teams of the members of the ' ( FIFA), the sport's global governing body. The tournament has been held every four years since the inaugural tournament in 1930, except in 1942 and 1946 when it was not held because of the Second World War. Own Goal
An own goal, also called a self goal, is where a player performs actions that result in them or their team scoring a goal on themselves, often resulting in a point for the opposing team, such as when a football player kicks a ball into their own net or goal, awarding the other team a point. In some parts of the world, the term has become a metaphor for ''any'' action that backfires on the person or group undertaking it, sometimes even carrying a sense of "poetic justice". During The Troubles, for instance, it acquired a specific metaphorical meaning in Belfast, referring to an IED (improvised explosive device) that detonated prematurely, killing the person making or handling the bomb with the intent to harm others. Treasury of British Comics is a line of comic book collections published by Rebellion Developments, collecting British comics stories from the libraries of Amalgamated Press/Fleetway Publications/IPC Magazines. History Rebellion Developments had purchased '' 2000 AD'' and ''Judge Dredd Megazine'' from Fleetway Publications in 2000. At the time, ownership of the library of material the later had published in its various incarnations was split, with characters who had appeared before 1 January 1970 sold to Danish publisher Egmont as part of TI Media (the latest incarnation of IPC Magazines, who made short-lived licensing deals for the characters with WildStorm (via Time Warner) and Titan Books in 2006. ''Judge Dredd: The Megazine'' is a monthly British comic magazine, launched in September 1990. It is a sister publication to '' 2000 AD''. Its name is a play on words, formed from "magazine" and Judge Dredd's locale Mega-City One. Content Like ''2000 AD'', ''Judge Dredd Megazine ''is an anthology, featuring both ongoing and stand-alone stories. Some series have comprised a specific storyline while others only a loose thematic connection. Originally the Megazine only set stories in the world of ''Judge Dredd'', including both spin-off series and ''Future Shock''-style done-in-one stories, starting with '' Strange Cases'' and continuing with ''Tales from the Black Museum''. The Vigilant (comics)
The Vigilant are a British superhero team who appear in comics published by Rebellion Developments. The team is mainly made up of updated versions of extant IPC/Fleetway Publications characters that are now owned by Rebellion, mixed with some original characters. Creation Having successfully purchased the long-running British comic '' 2000 AD'' from Egmont Publishing in 2000, Rebellion expanded their rights to other IPC/Fleetway Publications characters in 2016, buying the library for post-1970 characters and stories from Egmont. Rebellion planned to use the properties in both the ''Treasury of British Comics'' series of reprint collections and original material. The original strips had largely inhabited their own separate fictional universes when originally published, even when part of the same anthology titles.
