Jashore Sadar ( bn, যশোর সদর) is an upazila of Jashore District in the Division of Khulna, Bangladesh. Its administrative centre is the city of Jashore, which is also the centre of the district. Geography Jessore Sadar is located at . It has 73,654 households and a total area of 435.40 km2. The town of Jessore is on the banks of the Bhairab River. Demographics According to the 2011 Bangladesh census, Jessore Sadar had a population of 742,898. Males constituted 51.19% of the population and females 48.81%. Muslims formed 85.73% of the population, Hindus 8.95%, Christians 5.26% and others 0.05%. Jessore Sadar had a literacy rate of 63.8% for the population 7 years and above. An ''upazila'' ( bn, উপজেলা, upôzela, lit=sub-district pronounced: ), formerly called ''thana'', is an administrative region in Bangladesh, functioning as a sub-unit of a district. Michael Modhushudon College ( bn, সরকারি মাইকেল মধুসূদন কলেজ), in Jessore District, is one of the largest educational institutions in Khulna Division, Bangladesh. Union council ( bn, ইউনিয়ন পরিষদ, translit=iūniyan pariṣad, translit-std=IAST), also known as union parishad, rural council, rural union and simply union, is the smallest rural administrative and local government unit in Bangladesh. Each union council is made up of nine wards. Usually one village is designated as a ward. There are 4,562 unions in Bangladesh. 1991 Bangladesh Census
In 1991, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, conducted a national census in Bangladesh. They recorded data from all of the districts and upazilas and main cities in Bangladesh including statistical data on population size, households, sex and age distribution, marital status, economically active population, literacy and educational attainment, religion, number of children etc. According to the census, Hindus were 10.5 per cent of the population, down from 12.1 per cent as of 1981. Bangladesh have a population of 106,314,992 as per 1991 census report. Majority of 93,886,769 reported that they were Muslims, 11,184,337 reported as Hindus, 616,626 as Buddhists, 350,839 as Christians and 276,418 as others. In 2011, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, conducted a national census in Bangladesh, which provided a provisional estimate of the total population of the country as 142,319,000. The previous decennial census was the 2001 census. Data were recorded from all of the districts and upazilas and main cities in Bangladesh including statistical data on population size, households, sex and age distribution, marital status, economically active population, literacy and educational attainment, religion, number of children etc. Bangladesh and India also conducted their first joint census of areas along their border in 2011. According to the census, Hindus constituted 8.5 per cent of the population as of 2011, down from 9.6 per cent in the 2001 census. Bangladesh have a population of 144,043,697 as per 2011 census report. It is the administrative centre (headquarter) of the eponymous district and the third largest and second developed city in Khulna Division. The Asiatic Society of Bangladesh is a non political and non profit research organisation registered under both Society Act of 1864 and NGO Bureau, Government of Bangladesh. The Asiatic Society of Bangladesh was established as the Asiatic Society of East Pakistan in Dhaka in 1952 by a number of Muslim leaders, and renamed in 1972.
