Jesse Mahelona
Jesse Steven Kahuanani Mahelona (April 7, 1983 – September 5, 2009) was an American football defensive tackle in the National Football League. He was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the fifth round of the 2006 NFL Draft. He played college football at Tennessee. Mahelona was also a member of the Miami Dolphins, Atlanta Falcons, and Jacksonville Jaguars. College career Mahelona attended and played college football at the University of Tennessee under head coach Phillip Fulmer. He contributed in the 2004 and 2005 seasons as a junior college transfer. Professional career Tennessee Titans He was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the fifth round of the 2006 NFL Draft. He played ten games for the Titans in the 2006 season, and was released on September 11, 2007. Miami Dolphins On October 24, 2007, Mahelona was waived by the Miami Dolphins. Defensive Tackle
A defensive tackle (DT) is a position in American football that will typically line up on the line of scrimmage, opposite one of the offensive guards, however he may also line up opposite one of the tackles. Defensive tackles are typically the largest and strongest of the defensive players. Depending on a team's individual defensive scheme, a defensive tackle may be called upon to fill several different roles. These roles may include merely holding the point of attack by refusing to be moved, or penetrating a certain gap between offensive linemen to break up a play in the opponent's backfield. If a defensive tackle reads a pass play, his primary responsibility is to pursue the quarterback, or simply knock the pass down at the line if it is within arm's reach. The injured reserve list ( IR list) is a designation used in North American professional sports leagues for athletes who suffer injuries and become unable to play. The exact name of the list varies by league; it is known as "injured reserve" in the National Football League (NFL) and National Hockey League (NHL), the "injured list" in the Canadian Football League (CFL), and the injured list (historically known as the "disabled list") in Major League Baseball (MLB). The National Basketball Association (NBA) does not have a direct analog to an injured reserve list, instead using a more general-purpose "inactive list" that does not require a player to be injured. Injured reserve lists are used because the rules of these leagues allow for only a certain numbers of players on each team's roster.
