Jess Pugh
Jessica Claire Pugh (born 29 May 1985) is an Australian politician. She has been the Labor member for Mount Ommaney in the Queensland Legislative Assembly since the 2017 Queensland election. Early life and education Born in Brisbane, Pugh attended Cannon Hill Anglican College and she has a Bachelor of Business from the Queensland University of Technology majoring in International Business and Management. Career After graduating in 2007, Pugh worked in the role of Ministerial Adviser in Disability Services, Local Government and Main Roads until 2011. She left to work as an events manager of Restaurant Two, a fine dining institution headed by her father, renowned restaurateur David Pugh, until the restaurant closed in December 2016. Pugh served as a volunteer in numerous entities such as Queensland Meals on Wheels and Indooroopilly Montessori Children's House. The Parliament of Queensland is the legislature of Queensland, Australia. As provided under the Constitution of Queensland, the Parliament consists of the Monarch of Australia and the Legislative Assembly. Meals On Wheels
Meals on Wheels is a programme that delivers meals to individuals at home who are unable to purchase or prepare their own meals. The name is often used generically to refer to home-delivered meals programmes, not all of which are actually named "Meals on Wheels". Many of the housebound recipients are the elderly, and many of the volunteers are also elderly but able-bodied and able to drive automobiles. Research shows that home-delivered meal programmes significantly improve diet quality, reduce food insecurity and improve quality-of-life among the recipients. The programmes also reduce government expenditures by reducing the need of recipients to use hospitals, nursing homes or other expensive community-based services. The Electoral Commission of Queensland (ECQ) is established under the ''Electoral Act 1992'' as an independent statutory authority, responsible for the impartial conduct of state and local government elections in Queensland. Functions The Commission has three main functions. It must administer Queensland's electoral laws, conduct democratic parliamentary and industrial elections which are free and review local government boundaries. The 2015 Queensland state election was held on 31 January 2015 to elect all 89 members of the unicameral Legislative Assembly of Queensland. The centre-right Liberal National Party (LNP), led by Premier Campbell Newman, attempted to win a second term but was defeated by the opposition centre-left Australian Labor Party (ALP), led by Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk. Labor formed a minority government with the support of the lone independent MP in the chamber, Peter Wellington. Mount Ommaney is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. It was created with the 1992 redistribution. It covers the western suburbs of Brisbane south of the Brisbane River. The Western Arterial Road runs through the middle of the seat from north to south. The suburb is split by the industrial suburb of Seventeen Mile Rocks between the older suburbs around Corinda in the east and the more recent areas around Mount Ommaney.
