Jerzy Twarowski
Jerzy Twarowski (born December 19, 1995, in Kraków) is a Polish swimmer specializing in butterfly. Twarowski is a member of University of Iowa Swimming and Diving team in the United States. Prior to college, he represented Jordan Kraków. Twarowski is a multiple Polish junior champion from the age of 13 and a member of the Polish junior national team in swimming. He has qualified and competed at the NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships in both his freshman and sophomore years. Jerzy is coached by Marc Long. In 2013 he won gold medals on Polish junior championships for 100 m butterfly and 200 m butterfly. Twarowski won a bronze medal with a mixed relay 4x100 m medley (Agata Naskret, Marcin Stolarski, Jerzy Twarowski, Wioletta Orczykowska; 3:54.30) during 2013 European Junior Swimming Championships in Poznan. Butterfly Swimming
The butterfly (colloquially shortened to fly) is a swimming stroke swum on the chest, with both arms moving symmetrically, accompanied by the butterfly kick (also known as the "dolphin kick"). While other styles like the breaststroke, front crawl, or backstroke can be swum adequately by beginners, the butterfly is a more difficult stroke that requires good technique as well as strong muscles. It is the newest swimming style swum in competition, first swum in 1933 and originating out of the breaststroke. Speed and ergonomics The peak speed of the butterfly is faster than that of the front crawl due to the synchronous pull/push with both arms and legs, which is done quickly. Yet since speed drops significantly during the recovery phase, it is overall slightly slower than front crawl, especially over longer distances. Iowa Hawkeyes
The Iowa Hawkeyes are the athletic teams that represent the University of Iowa, located in Iowa City, Iowa. The Hawkeyes have varsity teams in 22 sports, 8 for men and 14 for women; a 15th women's sport will be added in 2023. The teams participate in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and are members of the Big Ten Conference. Currently, the school's athletic director is Gary Barta. Medley Swimming
Medley is a combination of four different swimming styles—backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and freestyle—into one race. This race is either swum by one swimmer as individual medley (IM) or by four swimmers as a medley relay. Individual medley Individual medley consists of a single swimmer swimming equal distances of four different strokes within one race. Stroke order Individual medley consists of four strokes. These four strokes go in an order by Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke and finally Freestyle. The swimmer will swim one quarter of the race in each style, in a certain order. 2013 European Junior Swimming Championships
The 2013 European Junior Swimming Championships were held from 10 to 14 July 2013 in Poznań, Poland. The Championships were organized by LEN, the European Swimming League, and were held in a 50-meter pool. Per LEN rules, competitors must be age 15 or 16 for girls and 17 or 18 for boys.
