Jerry Cowley
Jerry Cowley (born 11 November 1952) is an Irish barrister, medical doctor and politician. Originally from Ballina, he lives in Mulranny, County Mayo. He was an Independent Teachta Dála (TD) for the Mayo constituency after being elected to Dáil Éireann at the 2002 general election. He served until losing his seat at the 2007 general election. In April 2010, he joined the Labour Party. He was an unsuccessful candidate for that party in the Mayo constituency at the 2011 general election. Cowley was an independent candidate for the Mayo constituency at the 2016 general election, but failed to get elected. He is a former Mayo Person of the Year, and won a Rehab People of the Year Award The People of the Year Awards was an annual award show in Ireland. Shell To Sea
Shell to Sea ( ga, Shell chun Sáile) is an Irish organisation based in the parish of Kilcommon in Erris, County Mayo. It opposes the proposed construction of a natural gas pipeline through the parish, as well as the ongoing construction—by Royal Dutch Shell, Statoil and Vermilion Energy Trust—of a refinery at Bellanaboy intended to refine the natural gas from the Corrib gas field. It proposes instead that the gas be refined at sea, rather than inland, as is done with Ireland's only other producing gas field off County Cork. Shell to Sea believes the proximity of a raw natural gas pipeline is a risk to local residents. 2016 Irish General Election
The 2016 Irish general election took place on Friday 26 February to elect 158 Teachtaí Dála (TDs) across 40 constituencies to Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas, Ireland's parliament. The 31st Dáil was dissolved by President Michael D. Higgins on 3 February, at the request of Taoiseach Enda Kenny. There was a reduction of eight seats under the Electoral (Amendment) (Dáil Constituencies) Act 2013. Following the election, Kenny's Fine Gael with 50 of the 158 seats available remained the largest party in the Dáil despite having lost 26 seats. The main opposition party Fianna Fáil, which had suffered its worst-ever election result of 20 seats in 2011, increased its seats to 44. John O'Mahony (Mayo Politician)
John O'Mahony (born 8 June 1953) is an Irish former Fine Gael politician and former football manager who served as a Senator from 2016 to 2020, after being nominated by the Taoiseach. He was a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Mayo constituency from 2007 to 2016. Early and personal life O'Mahony is a native of Kilmovee, County Mayo. He is a graduate of University College Galway. He taught for many years at St Nathy's College, Ballaghaderreen, County Roscommon. O'Mahony is married to Gerardine Towey, they have five daughters.
