Jerrawa
Jerrawa () is a locality in the Upper Lachlan Shire, New South Wales, Australia. It lies on the north side of the Hume Highway about 30 km to the east of Yass and was served by Jerrawa railway station on the Main Southern line between Sydney and Melbourne between 1876 and 1975. At the , it had a population of 73. The area now known as Jerrawa lies on the traditional lands of the Gandangara or the Ngunnawal peoples. These two groups spoke a closely related, if not identical, language. The name Jerrawa is said to be a settler rendering of an aboriginal language word for 'iguana', probably referring to the goanna. The railway station and siding were situated at a location where the railway line gradient was flat, after rising from the bridge over Jerrawa Creek and then rising again to the west. History It opened in 1875 as a crossing loop with a goods siding. The line was duplicated , and the goods siding was arranged so that it was connected to the main lines with trailing points. There were also refuge loops in both directions. In its final form, Jerrawa had an island platform between the two main lines and several goods sidings. Oolong, New South Wales
Oolong is a locality in southern New South Wales, Australia and the location of a minor railway station on the Main South railway line. It lies within the section from Gunning to Bowning which opened as a single line on 3 July, 1876. it is also located on the Hume Highway between Goulburn and Yass. History The station and crossing loop opened on 25 November 1890. The platform, which was 33 metres long, was erected on 18 December, 1890. When the line was duplicated, including deviations to the original alignment, in 1914, a new station building was erected on the deviation. There was a siding, a crossover and a signal box on one of the platforms. The platform closed on 13 February 1972, and was dismantled in the late 1980s. Dalton is a small inland country town in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, Australia in Upper Lachlan Shire. Location Dalton is north of the Hume Highway that joins Sydney and Melbourne, between Goulburn and Yass in southern New South Wales, southwest of Sydney and north of the national capital, Canberra. Nearby towns are Cullerin, Gundaroo, Gunning, Yass, and Murrumbateman. Economy The Monaro region is renowned for its sheep wool industry, notably for the Merino breed. Yass () is a town in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, Australia in Yass Valley Council. The name appears to have been derived from an Aboriginal word, "Yarrh" (or "Yharr"), said to mean 'running water'. Yass is located 280 km south-west of Sydney, on the Hume Highway. The Yass River, which is a tributary of the Murrumbidgee River, flows through the town. Yass is 59 km from Canberra; lying at an elevation of 505 m AMSL. The Gundungurra people, also spelt Gundungara, Gandangarra, Gandangara and other variations, are an Aboriginal Australian people in south-eastern New South Wales, Australia. Their traditional lands include present day Goulburn, Wollondilly Shire, The Blue Mountains and the Southern Highlands. Name The ethnonym ''Gundangara'' combines lexical elements signifying both "east" and west'. Language The first attempt at a brief description of the Gundangara language was undertaken by R. H. A whirlwind is a weather phenomenon in which a vortex of wind (a vertically oriented rotating column of air) forms due to instabilities and turbulence created by heating and flow (current) gradients.
