Jerónima De La Asunción
Jerónima de la Asunción, O.S.C. ( es, Jerónima de la Asunción García Yánez y De La Fuente; May 9, 1555 – October 22, 1630) was a Spanish Catholic nun and abbess who founded the ''Real Monasterio de Santa Clara'' (Royal Monastery of Saint Clare) in Intramuros, Manila, Philippines. For her efforts in establishing the first Catholic monastery in Manila and the Far East, the Vatican issued an apostolic decree for her beatification in 1734. Jerónima Llorente ( Añover de Tajo, 1793 - Madrid, 1848) was a Spanish actress of the first half of the 19th century. Biography She was born in 1793 in the Toledo town of Añover de Tajo, which she left to fulfill her dream of being an actress. She made her debut at the age of 15 at the Teatro del Príncipe, where, directed by Juan Grimaldi, she achieved great popularity on the theater scene, playing strong characters. Her great achievements were achieved between 1835 and 1848 as a featured player of the company of Matilde Diez and Julián Romea, interpreting characters by Leandro Fernández de Moratín and Manuel Bretón de los Herreros. Death and legacy She died in 1848, and had a street dedicated in her honor in Madrid since 1887. ''The Nun Jerónima de la Fuente'' is a full-length portrait painting by Diego Velázquez depicting the titular nun. Velázquez painted ''Jerónima'', which is in oil on canvas, in 1620. It is now on display at the Museo del Prado in Madrid, Spain. History First discovered at an exhibition in 1926, the painting was originally attributed to Luis Tristán. Upon restoration, however, Diego Velázquez signature surfaced.
