Aaron Jernigan
Aaron David Jernigan (September 14, 1813 – August 25, 1891) was the first white settler of what is now Orange County, Florida. Originally from Camden County, Georgia, he lived for a time in the Tallahassee area before moving to Orange County in 1843. He was influential in the city of Orlando's early development; the town was called Jernigan until 1857. Jernigan and his wife, Mary, settled on the shore of Lake Holden, purchasing and moving some 700 head of cattle down from Tallahassee area where Jernigan and his brother Isaac (who also moved to Orlando) continued to own land and raise cattle. Jernigan cleared a spot near Lake Conway and built a small cabin, and began planting crops including corn, cotton, rice, sugar cane, pumpkins, and even melons. Jerrel Marquis Jernigan (born June 14, 1989) is a former American football wide receiver. He was drafted by the New York Giants in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft and won Super Bowl XLVI with the team against the New England Patriots. Kenton L. Jernigan is a squash (sport), squash player from the United States. He was one of the leading hardball squash players in the US in the 1980s and 1990s. Jernigan won the US national singles title three consecutive times in 1983-85. Representing Harvard University, he won the US intercollegiate singles title three times in 1983-84 and 1986. He also helped Harvard win several team titles and was a four-time All-American. In 1994, Jernigan won the men's doubles title at World Hardball Doubles Championship (partnering Jamie Bentley). Norman Kenneth Jernigan (November 13, 1926 – October 12, 1998) was the longtime leader of the National Federation of the Blind, the largest and oldest blind people's organization in the United States. Early life Kenneth Jernigan was born blind in Detroit, Michigan, but grew up on a farm in Tennessee. Beginning at the age of six, he was educated at the Tennessee School for the Blind in Nashville, Tennessee. In 1945, he began attending Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, Tennessee and graduated ''cum laude'' three years later. In 1949, he earned a master's degree in English from Peabody College in Nashville. Upon graduation from Peabody, he taught high school English at the Tennessee School for the Blind in Nashville for four years. During this time, he joined the National Federation of the Blind of Tennessee, eventually serving as its vice-president in 1950 and President one year later. Joseph Paul Jernigan
Joseph Paul Jernigan (January 31, 1954 – August 5, 1993) was a Texas murderer who was executed by lethal injection at 12:31 a.m. In 1981, Jernigan was found guilty of "cold-blooded murder" and sentenced to death for killing Edward Hale, a 75-year-old homeowner who discovered Jernigan and his accomplice, Roy Lamb as they were burglarizing his home. Jernigan spent 12 years in prison before his final plea for clemency was denied. At the prompting of a prison chaplain, he agreed to donate his body for scientific research or medical use. After execution, his cadaver was sectioned and photographed for the Visible Human Project and the University of Colorado School of Medicine by Dr. Vic Spitzer and associates. He is the subject of an HBO documentary ''Virtual Corpse'' and also appeared on the British video game TV series ''GamesMasters gore special. Jernigan had no last words.
