Jeremy Newberry
Jeremy David Newberry (born March 23, 1976) is a former center in the National Football League. He was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the second round of the 1998 NFL Draft. He was born in Antioch, California, and played college football at California. Newberry has also played for the Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers. Currently, Newberry works as the KPIX 5 NFL Analyst. Professional career San Francisco 49ers Newberry joined the 49ers in 1998, but missed the first nine weeks of the season after suffering a torn ACL in offseason mini-camp. He was inactive for the rest of the season as well. In 1999 he started all 16 games, first at right tackle then at right guard. Center (American Football)
Center or Centre (C) is a position in gridiron football. The center is the innermost lineman of the offensive line on a football team's offense. The center is also the player who passes (or "snaps") the ball between his legs to the quarterback at the start of each play. 1998 San Francisco 49ers Season
The 1998 San Francisco 49ers season was the franchise's 49th season in the National Football League and their 53rd overall. The Niners were heavily favored to represent the NFC in Super Bowl XXXIII for the second time in the 1990s. The season saw the return of Jerry Rice, who missed most of 1997 with a major knee injury. After defeating the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round of the playoffs, thanks to young Terrell Owens's game-winning catch, referred to by fans as "The Catch II", San Francisco's season ended with a loss to the Atlanta Falcons the following week in the divisional round. The Falcons went on to defeat the 15–1 Minnesota Vikings in the NFC title game but lost to the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl. Jake Grove
Charles Jacob Grove (born January 22, 1980) is a former American college and professional football player who was a center in the National Football League (NFL) for seven seasons. He played college football for Virginia Tech, and was recognized as a unanimous All-American. He was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the second round of the 2004 NFL Draft, and also played for the NFL's Miami Dolphins.He is now a lineman coach at Jefferson Forest High School. 2007 Oakland Raiders Season
The 2007 Oakland Raiders season was the 48th overall season of the Oakland Raiders franchise, the franchise's 38th season in the National Football League, their 13th season since their return to Oakland and the 1st season under head coach Lane Kiffin. The team finished the season with a 4–12 record. It began with the team's fourth head coach in six seasons. By virtue of the team's 2–14 finish in 2006 (the worst in the NFL for that year), they acquired the first overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft. Bobb McKittrick
Bobb McKittrick (December 29, 1935 – March 15, 2000) was an American football offensive line coach in the National Football League who coached in five Super Bowls. Playing career Born in Baker City, Oregon (then known as Baker), McKittrick attended Oregon State University, and was a member of the Acacia Fraternity. He played college football for the Oregon State Beavers, helping them to a Pacific Coast Conference championship in 1956, playing in the 1957 Rose Bowl. Following graduation from Oregon State, he served as an officer in the United States Marines Corps for three years. Coaching career From 1961 to 1964, McKittrick was a linebacker and tight end coach at Oregon State, helping the team reach the 1962 Liberty Bowl and the 1965 Rose Bowl. The injured reserve list ( IR list) is a designation used in North American professional sports leagues for athletes who suffer injuries and become unable to play. The exact name of the list varies by league; it is known as "injured reserve" in the National Football League (NFL) and National Hockey League (NHL), the "injured list" in the Canadian Football League (CFL), and the injured list (historically known as the "disabled list") in Major League Baseball (MLB). The National Basketball Association (NBA) does not have a direct analog to an injured reserve list, instead using a more general-purpose "inactive list" that does not require a player to be injured. In gridiron football, a sack occurs when the quarterback (or another offensive player acting as a passer) is tackled behind the line of scrimmage before throwing a forward pass, when the quarterback is tackled behind the line of scrimmage in the " pocket" and without clear intent, or when a passer runs out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage due to defensive pressure. Chris Dalman
Christopher William Dalman (born March 15, 1970) is a former professional American football player who played offensive lineman for seven seasons for the San Francisco 49ers (1993–2000). Early life and college career Dalman was born March 15, 1970, in Salinas, California to William Dalman and Janet (Johnson) Dalman. He was an offensive/ defensive tackle for Palma High School in Salinas, graduating in 1988. He was a four-year football letter-winner at Stanford University. Dalman is notable in that he is one of the few players to successfully undergo spinal fusion and return to the playing field, having undergone the surgery between his sophomore and junior years at Stanford. 2000 San Francisco 49ers Season
The 2000 San Francisco 49ers season was the franchise's 51st season in the National Football League and their 55th overall. Jerry Rice entered the 2000 season as the oldest player in the league at the wide receiver position. At the end of the year, however, with the emergence of Terrell Owens, Rice decided to leave the team after sixteen seasons to join the Raiders. Running back Charlie Garner would join Rice in Oakland. The 49ers improved from 4–12 in 1999 to 6–10, but still suffered back-to-back losing seasons for the first time since their four consecutive losing seasons from 1977 to 1980. In gridiron football, a guard (G), otherwise known as an offensive guard (OG), is a player who lines up between the center and the tackles on the offensive line of a football team on the line of scrimmage used primarily for blocking. Right guards (RG) is the term for the guards on the right of the offensive line, while left guards (LG) are on the left side. Guards are to the right or left of the center.
