Jeremy Kinross
Jeremy Stirton Prevost Kinross (born 18 December 1959) is a former Australian politician. He was the Liberal Party member for Gordon in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1992 to 1999. Kinross was born in Sydney to John Stirton Kinross and his wife Elisabeth. Jeremy Kinross was educated at The King's School, Parramatta, before attending the University of New South Wales and Macquarie University, receiving a Bachelor of Laws (with Honours) and a Bachelor of Commerce and an MBA, becoming both a Barrister and Chartered Accountant. He was a fellow of the Taxation Institute of Australia and author of the taxation section for the Commercial Law Association. He joined the Liberal Party in 1986. In 1992, the Liberal member for the local state seat of Gordon, Tim Moore, resigned over the findings of the Independent Commission Against Corruption, having been linked to the Metherell affair. Liberal Party Of Australia (New South Wales Division)
The Liberal Party of Australia (New South Wales Division), commonly known as the New South Wales Liberals, is the state division of the Liberal Party of Australia in New South Wales. The party currently governs in New South Wales in coalition with the National Party of Australia (NSW). The party is part of the federal Liberal Party which is in opposition nationally. Following the Liberal Party's formation in October 1944, the NSW division of the Liberal Party was formed in January 1945. For the following months, the Democratic Party and Liberal Democratic Party joined the Liberal Party and were replaced by the new party's NSW division. Independent Commission Against Corruption (New South Wales)
The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) is an agency of the Government of New South Wales responsible for eliminating and investigating corrupt activities and enhancing the integrity of the state's public administration. The Commission was established in 1989, pursuant to the , modeled after the ICAC in Hong Kong. It is led by a Chief Commissioner appointed for a fixed five-year term; and two part-time Commissioners. Then-NSW Premier Mike Baird suggested in November 2016 his desire to move from a sole Commissioner to a three-commissioner system, however this was strongly criticised by two former ICAC commissioners as weakening and politicising the organisation, leading to the resignation of then-Commissioner Megan Latham. The New South Wales Legislative Council, often referred to as the upper house, is one of the two chambers of the parliament of the Australian state of New South Wales. The other is the Legislative Assembly. Both sit at Parliament House in the state capital, Sydney. It is normal for legislation to be first deliberated on and passed by the Legislative Assembly before being considered by the Legislative Council, which acts in the main as a house of review. The Legislative Council has 42 members, elected by proportional representation in which the whole state is a single electorate. Ku-ring-gai is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. Since 2015 it has been represented by Alister Henskens of the Liberal Party. The electorate covers the suburbs and parts of the suburbs of Gordon, Hornsby, Killara, Lindfield, Normanhurst, North Turramurra, North Wahroonga, Pymble, South Turramurra, Thornleigh, Turramurra, Wahroonga, Waitara, Warrawee and West Pymble. History Ku-ring-gai was created before the 1973 election and was held by John Maddison, a minister in the government of Askin, who had previously been the member for Hornsby. The Australian Labor Party (New South Wales Branch), also known as NSW Labor, is the New South Wales branch of the Australian Labor Party. The parliamentary leader is elected from and by the members of the party caucus, comprising all party members in the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council. The party factions have a strong influence on the election of the leader. The leader's position is dependent on the continuing support of the caucus (and party factions) and the leader may be deposed by failing to win a vote of confidence of parliamentary members. Terry Metherell
Terry Alan Metherell (born 9 January 1947) is a former Australian politician who represented the Electoral district of Davidson in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1981 to 1992. When the Liberal Party won the 1988 election, Premier Nick Greiner appointed him Minister for Education and Youth Affairs, a portfolio he held until 1990. In October 1991, he resigned from the Liberal party and remained in Parliament until his resignation to take up an offer of a public service job. This offer led to the downfall of Greiner, who was found to have corruptly offered the position to force a by-election in Metherell's district. Tim Moore (Australian Politician)
Timothy John Moore (born 8 November 1948) is a Judge of the NSW Land and Environment Court and a former Australian politician. He was the Liberal member for Gordon in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1976 to 1992, and Minister from the Environment from 1989 to 1992. Career The son of Sir John Moore, he was educated at Knox Grammar School. He worked in various manual positions, including an iron ore mine in the Northern Territory, and in 1974 became Treasurer and Honorary Secretary of the Industrial Relations Society of Australia. In 1976, he was elected to the New South Wales Parliament as the Liberal member for Gordon. Gordon was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. Originally created in 1904, replacing Willoughby. With the introduction of proportional representation, it was absorbed into the five-member electorate of Ryde, along with Burwood and Willoughby. It was recreated in 1927, but was abolished in 1999. It originally covered most of the suburbs of the Ku-ring-gai Council local government area (then known as Ku-ring-gai Municipality), including the suburbs of Lindfield and Gordon.
