picture info	Jeremiah Henry Murphy Jeremiah Henry Murphy (February 19, 1835 – December 11, 1893) was a two-term Democratic U.S. Representative from Iowa's 2nd congressional district. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, Murphy moved with his parents to Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, in 1849, and to Iowa County, Iowa, in 1852. He attended the Boston public schools and Appleton (Wisconsin) University. He graduated from the University of Iowa at Iowa City in 1857. After studying law, he was admitted to the bar in 1858 and commenced practice in Marengo, Iowa. Murphy was elected alderman in 1860. He served as delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1864 and 1868. In 1867, he moved to Davenport, Iowa and continued the practice of law. Murphy was elected mayor of Davenport in 1873 and again in 1878. He served one term as a member of the Iowa Senate from 1874 to 1878. 	Jeremiah Murphy (piper) Jeremiah Murphy (fl. 1811–1815) was an Irish piper. A native of Loughrea, County Galway, Murphy announced his relocation to Dublin in an edition of ''The Freeman's Journal'', dated September 1811: "THE IRISH PIPES. Jeremiah Murphy, late of Loughrea, begs leave to acquaint the lovers of national music that he at present plays at Darcy's Tavern, Cook Street, where he humbly hopes his exertions to please will obtain for him that encouragement with which he has for so many years been honored by the gentlemen of Munster and Connacht." Early in 1813, Murphy transferred to the Griffin Tavern, on Dame Street, described as "a sort of “Free-and-Easy” establishment." He ceased performing in taverns in 1815, and what became of him afterwards is unknown. 	Jerry Murphy Jeremiah Michael Murphy (born 23 September 1959) is a retired professional footballer who played as a midfielder in the League for Crystal Palace and Chelsea before moving into non-league football with Fisher Athletic. Born in England, he made three appearances for the Republic of Ireland national team. Career Murphy started out with Terry Venables' Crystal Palace, spending nine years at Selhurst Park during which time he won the FA Youth Cup in both 1977 and 1978 as part of the famous "Team of the Eighties". The club were then promoted to the First Division in Murphy's first full season in the side, but were relegated after two seasons in the top flight. However, Murphy remained with Palace winning the "Player of the Year" award in 1983. He moved back to the top flight again, joining Chelsea on a free transfer in the summer of 1985.
