A midfielder is an outfield position in association football. Midfielders may play an exclusively defensive role, breaking up attacks, and are in that case known as defensive midfielders. Kamatamare Sanuki (カマタマーレ讃岐、Kamatamare Sanuki) is a football club based in Takamatsu, Kagawa, Takamatsu, the capital city of Kagawa Prefecture of Japan. They currently play in the J3 League. They entered the J League in 2014 after finishing as runner-up in the Japan Football League in 2013. The first part of their name was coined by combining the Japanese word ''Kamatama'' (a type of udon noodle bowl) and the Italian ''Mare'' ("Sea"). Second-tier club football has existed in Japan since 1972; however, it was only professionalized during the 1999 season with ten clubs.
