Jens Wallays
Jens Wallays (born 15 September 1992) is a Belgian former professional racing cyclist, who rode professionally for between 2015 and 2017. He is the brother and nephew of racing cyclists Jelle Wallays and Luc Wallays, the latter of whom coached Jelle and Jens. Jelle Wallays
Jelle Wallays (born 11 May 1989) is a Belgian road cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Career Jelle Wallays is the brother and nephew of racing cyclists Jens Wallays and Luc Wallays. He was coached by his uncle in his early racing career and competed in his first race at the age of 14. The start of his first year as a professional in 2011 was marred by a knee injury, however a few weeks after returning to competition he took the best result of his season at the Belgian National Road Race Championships, where he finished third behind Philippe Gilbert and Gianni Meersman. A winner of the Paris–Tours Espoirs in 2010, Wallays won the 2014 Paris–Tours having been in a breakaway that went in the opening kilometres of the race, making him the only rider to win the under-23 and elite men's editions of Paris–Tours. Luc Wallays
Luc Wallays (7 August 1961 – 5 March 2013) was a Belgian professional racing cyclist. Wallays turned professional in 1984, after winning the Giro della Valle d'Aosta the previous year. He rode in the 1985 Tour de France. However his career was cut short due to a bacterial illness he contracted whilst in Chile. Wallays subsequently became a physiotherapist, and remained heavily involved in cycle racing: he coached his nephews, racing cyclists Jelle and Jens Wallays, served as sporting manager at Jonge Renners Roeselare cycling club, and was elite sport coordinator with the Flanders Cycling Federation from 2008 until his death. He was afflicted with cancer for the last six years of his life, overcoming the disease twice before succumbing to the illness in March 2013. Belgian National Road Race Championships
The Belgian National Road Race Championship is a cycling race which decides who will become Belgian national champion for the year to come. The record for most wins is currently held by one of the most successful Belgian sprinters, Tom Steels, who managed to take four road championship titles. The winners of each event are awarded with a symbolic cycling jersey, which is black, yellow and red, like the national flag. These colours can be worn by the rider at other road racing events to show their status as national champion.
