Jens Nilssøn
Jens Nilssøn (in Latin ''Joannis Nicolai'') (1538–1600) was a Norwegian clergyman, educator, poet and author. He served as the Bishop of Oslo from 1580 to 1600. Biography Nilssøn was born in Oslo, Norway. After the death of his father, his mother moved to Denmark. He went to school in Copenhagen and Roskilde. He became Rector at Oslo Cathedral School in 1563. He was one of the ''Oslohumanisterne'', a group of men associated with St. Hallvard's Cathedral and Oslo Cathedral School. Through their scholarly studies, they represented a breakthrough of humanism in Norway. He took his Master's Degree from the University of Copenhagen in 1571. He served as an assistant and aide to Bishop Frants Berg and in 1564 he married the bishop's daughter Magdalena (1546-1583). Andreas Brandrud
Andreas Brandrud (26 February 1868 – 14 June 1957) was a Norwegian professor, theologian and church historian. Biography He was born in Sør-Fron as a son of farmer and merchant Torsten Brandrud (1837–1933) and Anna Bleken (1844–1879). In February 1897 he married dean (religion), dean's daughter Anna Broch Martens (1875–1966). He came from a Haugean movement, Haugean family and studied theology at the University of Oslo, University of Kristiania. He took the cand.theol. degree in 1892. He made a study trip to Germany, where he studied under Reinhold Seeberg (1859–1935) in Erlangen and Adolf von Harnack (1851–1930) in Berlin. He also studied in Italy, Denmark and the United Kingdom. Anders Bendssøn Dall
Anders Bendssøn Dall ( Latinized as Andreas Benedictus Dallinus) was a Danish Lutheran prelate of the Church of Norway who served as Bishop of Oslo from 1601 to 1607. He played an important role in proposing a new church ordinance for the Norwegian Church to have more autonomy from the Church of Denmark. Early life and education Dall was born in Denmark around 1550; his parents' names are unknown. After entering the priesthood, he studied at the University of Copenhagen and other foreign universities. In 1591, after several years as a parish priest, Dall returned to the University of Copenhagen, receiving his magister degree. Priesthood Dall began his priestly career in the early 1580s in Denmark, first as the parish priest in Eltang and Vilstrup, before becoming pastor in Kolding in 1586. Ludvig Holm-Olsen
Ludvig Holm-Olsen (9 June 1914 – 10 June 1990) was a Norwegian philologist. He was born in Tromøy as a son of shipmaster and accident investigator Peter Olsen (1866–1950) and Louise Holm (1885–1969). He was a nephew of Magnus Olsen. Since 1941 he was married to Elsa Dorothea Triseth. He finished his secondary education at Frogner School in 1932, studied at the University of Oslo and graduated in 1940 with the cand.philol. degree. Francis Bull
Francis Bull (4 October 1887–4 July 1974) was a Norwegian literary historian, professor at the University of Oslo for more than thirty years, essayist and speaker, and magazine editor. Early and personal life Bull was born in Kristiania, son of medical doctor Edvard Isak Hambro Bull (1845–1925) and Ida Marie Sofie Paludan (1861–1957). He was brother to theatre director Johan Peter Bull, historian and politician Edvard Bull and genealogist Theodor Bull. Through Edvard Bull he was the uncle of historian Edvard Bull. Anton Christian Bang
Anton Christian Bang (18 September 1840 in Dønna, Helgeland – 29 December 1913) was a Norwegian theologian, historian and politician for the Conservative Party of Norway. Bang was one of the more prominent figures within the Church of Norway in the decades around 1900. He served as a professor of church history at the Royal Frederick University from 1885 onward, as Minister of Education and Church Affairs from 1893 to 1895, and as Bishop of Oslo from 1896 to 1912. Yngvar Nielsen (29 July 1843, Arendal, Aust-Agder – 2 March 1916) was a Norwegian historian, politician, geographer and pioneer of tourism in Norway. Background Nielsen was born in Arendal, Aust-Agder. He was the son of Norwegian Telegraph Director, Carsten Tank Nielsen (1818–92) and Alvilde Olsen (1821–1890). Nielsen descended on both father's and mother's side from the established civil and commercial bourgeoisie.
