Jenny Wiley Theatre
Jenny Wiley Theatre was a non-profit organization in Kentucky that produced classic Broadway musicals, comedies, historical dramas and holiday productions at both the Jenny Wiley Amphitheatre, located within the Jenny Wiley State Resort Park, and an indoor venue in Pikeville.In 2019, the company furloughed its staff, cancelled its performances, and was evicted from both its locations by the municipal property owners. Its programming has been replaced by the Appalachian Arts in Pikeville. The theater's first musical was ''South Pacific'', performed in the summer of 1965. Some theater alumni and staff have later achieved success in television, film and national theater. Floyd County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of the 2020 census, the population was 35,942. Its county seat is Prestonsburg. The county, founded in 1800, is named for Colonel John Floyd (1750–1783). History On December 13, 1799, the Kentucky General Assembly passed legislation to form Floyd County as the 40th county of Kentucky.Kleber, John E. The legislation became effective on June 1, 1800. The county was named for James John Floyd, a pioneer surveyor who helped lay out the city of Louisville.
