Jenny Bürde-Ney
Jenny Bürde-Ney (1826-1886) was a German operatic soprano. She performed many leading roles in prestigious opera houses, and later became a singing teacher. Early life The daughter of singer Katharina Ney-Segatta, Bürde-Ney was trained from an early age by her mother. Career Operatic roles In her first recorded major role in 1845 she sang the title role in Bellini's ''Norma'' in the city of Olomouc, now in the Czech Republic. Between 1847-1848 she was engaged in Prague, and between 1848-1850 in Lviv. After Lviv, she was invited to Vienna by the Wiener Hofoper, now the Vienna State Opera. During her time in Vienna she also made appearances abroad. She appeared as Leonora in the British premiere of Verdi's '' Il trovatore'' at Covent Garden, and also appeared at the same location with Karl Formes in ''Fidelio'' in 1852. After working in Vienna until 1853 (when her mother died) she moved to Dresden, where she developed into an artist of European reputation at the Dresden K ... Olomouc
Olomouc (, , ; german: Olmütz; pl, Ołomuniec ; la, Olomucium or ''Iuliomontium'') is a city in the Czech Republic. Vienna State Opera
The Vienna State Opera (, ) is an opera house and opera company based in Vienna, Austria. The 1,709-seat Renaissance Revival venue was the first major building on the Vienna Ring Road. It was built from 1861 to 1869 following plans by August Sicard von Sicardsburg and Eduard van der Nüll, and designs by Josef Hlávka. The opera house was inaugurated as the "Vienna Court Opera" (''Wiener Hofoper'') in the presence of Emperor Franz Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth of Austria. It became known by its current name after the establishment of the First Austrian Republic in 1921. The Vienna State Opera is the successor of the old Vienna Court Opera (built in 1636 inside the Hofburg). The new site was chosen and the construction paid by Emperor Franz Joseph in 1861. Il Trovatore
''Il trovatore'' ('The Troubadour') is an opera in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi to an Italian libretto largely written by Salvadore Cammarano, based on the play ''El trovador'' (1836) by Antonio García Gutiérrez. It was García Gutiérrez's most successful play, one which Verdi scholar Julian Budden describes as "a high flown, sprawling melodrama flamboyantly defiant of the Aristotelian unities, packed with all manner of fantastic and bizarre incident." The premiere took place at the Teatro Apollo in Rome on 19 January 1853, where it "began a victorious march throughout the operatic world," a success due to Verdi's work over the previous three years. Karl Formes
Karl Johann Franz Formes (b. Mülheim am Rhein, 7 August 1815; d. San Francisco, 15 December 1889), also called Charles John Formes, was a German bass opera and oratorio singer who had a long international career especially in Germany, London and New York. At one time extremely famous and in the forefront of his profession, several roles were composed for his voice, most notably that of Plunkett in Flotow's opera ''Martha''. Formes's own ''Memoirs'', first published in 1888, may not be entirely trustworthy. Charles Santley recorded that Formes was a great teller of stories, 'much after the style of Baron Munchausen'. Origins, training and début Karl Formes derived from the Spanish family of Formes-de-Varaz, settled in Germany since the 16th century.
