Jenny Blokland
Jenny May Blokland is a judge of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory, Australia. Early life and education Blokland was born in Ardrossan, South Australia, one of two children of Joan and Frank Blokland. Her father was a boilermaker/fitter and turner, while her mother was a legal secretary. Blokland went to school at Modbury High School in Adelaide before studying at the University of Adelaide, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Laws. Career To become a solicitor Blokland needed to complete a period as an articled clerk, which she did at the Northern Territory Department of Law in 1980-1, where she worked with Ian Barker . She then worked for the North Australian Aboriginal Legal Aid Service, until 1987, predominantly in criminal and family law. Blokland again studied at the University of Adelaide, obtaining a Master of Laws, before returning to the Northern Territory in 1990. Industrial Relations Court Of Australia
The Industrial Relations Court of Australia was a short-lived Chapter III Court whose jurisdiction was transferred from the Federal Court in 1994, and transferred back in 1997.. In the words of former Chief Justice Robert French, "The tide went in, the tide went out". Every judge had a concurrent appointment in the Federal Court. Despite the transfer of jurisdiction, any existing matter or appeal from an existing matter remained in the Industrial Relations Court of Australia, with the result that the last case was not finally disposed of until 2005/6. The Order of Australia is an honour that recognises Australian citizens and other persons for outstanding achievement and service. It was established on 14 February 1975 by Elizabeth II, Queen of Australia, on the advice of the Australian Government. Judith Kelly
Judith Clair Kelly is a Judge of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory (Australia). She was appointed to the Court on 12 August 2009. Justice Kelly was only the second female appointment to the Court since it was established in 1911. Early life and education Kelly was born in Queensland, daughter of Colin and Valerie Fletcher and granddaughter of Ivy and Harold Snell. She obtained a Diploma in Education and worked as a school teacher, where she married Matthew Kelly. They moved to the Northern Territory in 1977 working at the Batchelor Area School, Batchelor. In 1983 Kelly started studying law at the University of Queensland, graduating in 1983 with a Bachelor of Laws with Honours. Sally Thomas
Sally Gordon Thomas (born 7 August 1939) is a former Judge of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory, serving from 1992 to 2009. She was appointed to the Court on 10 August 1992 and was the first woman to be appointed a Judge of the Court. She was sworn in as the first female Administrator of the Northern Territory in October 2011. One of her first engagements in the role was to welcome Barack Obama, the President of the United States, to Darwin during his visit in November 2011. David Norman Angel KC (born 5 July 1944) was a Judge of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory, Australia. He was appointed to the court on 8 May 1989. Justice Angel retired on 20 January 2010. At the time of his retirement he was the Northern Territory's longest serving resident Judge. Education and legal work Justice Angel was educated at Prince Alfred College in South Australia and later attended the University of Adelaide.
