Jennifer Dy Chan
Jennifer Dy Chan (born January 16, 1965) is a Filipino archer who has competed for the Philippines at the 2000 Summer Olympics. She is a resident of Dumaguete. Education Chan attended the Silliman University where she obtained a bachelor's degree in general science. Career Silliman University physical education instructor and Philippine national archery coach, Dionisio Flores encouraged Chan to take up archery. Before then, Chan was more into basketball and tennis but was convinced since she was told that archery is a sport she could play by herself. Chan trained for eight months before participating at the National Open which gave her a chance to compete in the Southeast Asian Games. According to World Archery, She took up archery in 1989 and debuted for her country in 1990. Chan first competed in the 1991 edition of the Southeast Asian Games though she didn't medal. World Archery
The World Archery Federation (WA, also and formerly known as FITA from the French ''Fédération Internationale de Tir à l'Arc'') is the governing body of the sport of archery. It is based in Lausanne, Switzerland. It is composed of 156 national federations and other archery associations, and is recognised by the International Olympic Committee. History FITA was founded on 4 September 1931 in Lwow, Poland (today Lviv, Ukraine). Its seven founding member states were France, Czechoslovakia, Sweden, Poland, the United States, Hungary, and Italy. The aim of the organization was to create regular archery championships, and to return archery to the Olympic Games (the sport had not been featured since 1920). FITA was finally successful in returning archery to the Olympic program in the 1972 Summer Olympics. Archery At The 2008 Summer Olympics
At the 2008 Summer Olympics, the Archery competitions were held between 9 August and 15 August, at the Olympic Green Archery Field, a temporary venue on the Olympic Green, Beijing's Olympic Park. Competition format Both men and women have the same size targets (1.22 m) and stand the same distance away from their target (70 m). The score for each arrow is determined by how close to the center of the target it hits, with a score of 10 for hitting directly in the center, down to 0 points if the target is missed entirely or the archer fails to shoot within the time limit of 40 seconds per arrow. Medals were awarded in four events: Men's Individual, Women's Individual, Men's Team, and Women's Team. Individual 64 archers compete in both the men's and women's individual competition. A preliminary ranking round is held at 70 m, where each archer shoots 72 arrows (in six ends, or groups, of 12 arrows).
