Jen Chaiken is an American Independent film, indie film producer. Chaiken won an Emmy Awards, Emmy award for Best documentary, Best Documentary for the film ''My Flesh and Blood.'' Early life Chaiken grew up in San Leandro, California, San Leandro and Lafayette, California, Lafayette. She is a graduate of Yale University, and lived in NYC before returning to San Francisco in 1997. Chaiken's intro to the film business began as an apprenticeship in New York after she finished college. She is a partner in the California-based 72 Productions. Chaiken is gay and married to Sam Hamilton, whom she married in 2002. ''My Flesh and Blood'' is a 2003 documentary film by Jonathan Karsh chronicling a year in the life of the Tom family. The Tom family is notable as the mother, Susan Tom, adopted eleven children, most of whom had serious disabilities or diseases. It was nominated for and won several awards, including the Audience Award and the Director's Award at the Sundance Film Festival. Plot The documentary takes an in-depth look at the Tom family, which mostly consists of children who were rejected by their birth families due to mental or physical disabilities. The International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) is the world's largest documentary film festival held annually since 1988 in Amsterdam.
