Lenah Jemutai Cheruiyot (born 1 March 1973) is a Kenyan former long-distance runner who competed mainly in road running competitions. Her highest international honour was a team gold medal at the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in 2002, which she shared for finishing seventh. She competed up to the marathon distance and set a best of 2:26:00 hours for that event at the 2008 Paris Marathon, at which she was placed third. Sharon Jemutai Cherop (born 16 March 1984) is a Kenyan long-distance runner who specialises in the marathon. She won a bronze medal at the age of sixteen in the 5000 metres at the World Junior Championships. She was the bronze medal winner in the marathon at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics and won the Boston Marathon in 2012. After her junior medals, it was not until 2010 that she enjoyed senior level success. Kalenjin People
The Kalenjin are a group of tribes designated as Highland Nilotes and are descended from Maliri people ''(thus related to Daasanach of Ethiopia.)'' The Kalenjin are cousins with Datooga people of Tanzania and Malawi. In contrast, their designation groups them with other Nilotes including Maasai, Luo, Turkana and Nuer, Dinka among others. They are indigenous to East Africa, residing mainly in what was formerly the Rift Valley Province in Kenya and Eastern slopes of Mount Elgon in Uganda. Peruth Chemutai (born July 10, 1999) is a Ugandan steeplechase runner. She won the gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo in the women's 3000 metres steeplechase race, becoming the first Ugandan woman ever to win an Olympic medal.
