Jemeni
Joanne Gairy, better known by her stage name Jemeni, is a singer, actress, writer, activist, broadcaster and community worker. She was born in Grenada and grew up in St. Catharines, Ontario and now lives in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She studied Radio and Television Arts at Ryerson University (now Toronto Metropolitan University), Toronto. She is a hip-hop poet, and works in Canadian broadcasting. She was formerly a host on Flow 93.5 FM and volunteered for the Ryerson University campus radio station CKLN-FM. She is a music critic on Much Music and is an influential young Caribbean-Canadian woman. The Literature Alive series about Caribbean-Canadian authors (broadcast on Bravo! Television October 6 to December 29, 2005), produced a documentary about Jemeni called ''Jemeni in the City''. CFPT-FM
CFPT-FM (106.5 FM, "106.5 Elmnt FM") is an indigenous radio station in Toronto. Owned by First Peoples Radio, a subsidiary of the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN), it broadcasts music and talk programming targeting the First Nations community, with the former focusing upon both contemporary and indigenous musicians. The station launched on October 24, 2018 as a replacement for the city's Voices Radio station. History In June 2017, the CRTC awarded licences for five new Indigenous radio stations in Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa, Vancouver, and Toronto to replace the Voices Radio network (whose licenses were revoked in 2015 due to long-term compliance issues). Brown Girl In The Ring (novel)
''Brown Girl in the Ring'' is a 1998 novel written by Jamaican-Canadian writer Nalo Hopkinson. The novel contains Afro-Caribbean culture with themes of folklore and magical realism. It was the winning entry in the Warner Aspect First Novel Contest. Since the selection, Hopkinson's novel has received critical acclaim in the form of the 1999 Locus Award for Best First Novel, and the 1999 John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer.
