Jemea Thomas
Jemea I. Thomas (born April 7, 1990) is a former American football cornerback. He was drafted by the New England Patriots in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He played college football at Georgia Tech. Early years A native of Fitzgerald, Georgia, Thomas attended Fitzgerald High School, where he was named the 2008 AJC Class AA Defensive Player of the Year. As a senior in 2008, he rushed for 518 yards on 59 carries (8.8 yards avg) and seven touchdowns. Defensively, he had 140 tackles with three blocked field goals and four interceptions. Cornerback
A cornerback (CB) is a member of the defensive backfield or secondary in gridiron football. Cornerbacks cover receivers most of the time, but also blitz and defend against such offensive running plays as sweeps and reverses. They create turnovers through hard tackles, interceptions, and deflecting forward passes. Other members of the defensive backfield include strong and free safeties. The cornerback position requires speed, agility, strength, and the ability to make rapid sharp turns. In sports, the practice squad, also called the taxi squad or practice roster, is a group of players signed by a team but not part of their main roster. Frequently used in gridiron football, they serve as extra players during the team's practices, often as part of the scout team by emulating an upcoming opponent's play style. Redshirt, in United States college athletics, is a delay or suspension of an athlete's participation in order to lengthen their period of eligibility. Typically, a student's athletic eligibility in a given sport is four seasons, aligning with the four years of academic classes typically required to earn a bachelor's degree at an American college or university. However, in a redshirt year, student athletes may attend classes at the college or university, practice with an athletic team, and "suit up" (wear a team uniform) for play – but they may compete in only a limited number of games (see " Use of status" section).
