Jeffrey Field
Jeffrey Field is an outdoor college soccer stadium in University Park, Pennsylvania, United States, on the campus of Pennsylvania State University. It has been home to Penn State Nittany Lions men's soccer and Penn State Nittany Lions women's soccer since 1972. The stadium was dedicated and named after the late-William_Jeffrey_(American_soccer), Bill Jeffrey, who was Penn State Nittany Lions men's soccer, Penn State men's soccer head coach from 1926 until 1952. Jeffrey Field had an initial seating capacity of 2,500, but was later increased to 3,000 in 1978. The stadium's capacity was increased again in 2003 to meet rising ticket needs. George Washington Colonials Men's Soccer
The George Washington Colonials men's soccer team is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of George Washington University in Washington, D.C., United States. The team is a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, which is part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I. George Washington's first men's soccer team was fielded in 1967. The team plays its home games at Mount Vernon Athletic Field in Washington, D.C. The Colonals are coached by Craig Jones. The Penn State Nittany Lions are the athletic teams of Pennsylvania State University, except for the women's basketball team, known as the Lady Lions. The school colors are navy blue and white. The school mascot is the Nittany Lion. The intercollegiate athletics logo was commissioned in 1983. The Penn State Nittany Lions men's soccer team is an intercollegiate varsity sports team of Pennsylvania State University. The team is a member of the Big Ten Conference of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Penn State's intercollegiate soccer program began in 1911 and has won or shared 11 national championships and 6 conference tournament championships. ''Poa pratensis'', commonly known as Kentucky bluegrass (or blue grass), smooth meadow-grass, or common meadow-grass, is a perennial species of grass native to practically all of Europe, North Asia and the mountains of Algeria and Morocco. ''Poa annua'', or annual meadow grass (known in America more commonly as annual bluegrass or simply poa), is a widespread low-growing turfgrass in temperate climates. Notwithstanding the reference to annual plant in its name, perennial bio-types do exist. This grass may have originated as a hybrid between ''Poa supina'' and '' Poa infirma''. Floodlight
A floodlight is a broad-beamed, high-intensity artificial light. They are often used to illuminate outdoor playing fields while an outdoor sports event is being held during low-light conditions. More focused kinds are often used as a stage lighting instrument in live performances such as concerts and plays. In the top tiers of many professional sports, it is a requirement for stadiums to have floodlights to allow games to be scheduled outside daylight hours. William Jeffrey (American Soccer)
William "Bill" Jeffrey (August 3, 1892January 7, 1966) was the head coach of the United States national soccer team at the 1950 FIFA World Cup that famously beat England 1–0 in one of the greatest upsets in the history of soccer. He was the coach of Penn State for 26 seasons, winning ten national college championships. He is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Career Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Jeffrey began playing at an early age, but suffered a career-ending injury. His mother sent him to live with an uncle in the United States. He began working as a mechanic with the Altoona Railroad Shop of the Pennsylvania Railroad. He eventually came to manage the company team. In 1925, his team played an exhibition game with Penn State University. This resulted in an offer to coach the men's soccer team, a position he held for 27 years.
