Jeff Yeates
Jeffrey Lee Yeates (born August 3, 1951) is a former American football defensive lineman. He played college football at Boston College. He was drafted in the fourth round (103rd overall) of the 1973 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. Career In 1971 Yeates was named to the UPI All-East all-star team, as well as the AP All-East all-star team. After appearing in three games for the Bills in 1976, he was waived, and later signed by the Atlanta Falcons. In September 1977, he was waived by the Falcons. The ''Del Rio News-Herald'' was a newspaper published in Del Rio, Texas, covering Val Verde County. The publication's origins date back to 1884, but the paper took on its current name after a consolidation of two separate titles in 1929. Jeffrey Colin Merrow (born July 12, 1953) is a former defensive end who played nine seasons in the National Football League (NFL) for the Atlanta Falcons as a member of their famed Grits Blitz defense. He played collegiately for the West Virginia Mountaineers. Collegiate career Jeff Merrow enrolled at West Virginia University in 1972, and as a freshman, he recorded his lone interception. As a sophomore one year later, he led head coach Bobby Bowden's defense with 141 tackles (15 for a loss), six sacks, and a fumble recovery. In his junior season, 1974, Merrow recorded 134 tackles (seven for a loss), three sacks and two fumble recoveries. Defensive end (DE) is a defensive position in the sport of gridiron football. This position has designated the players at each end of the defensive line, but changes in formation (American football), formations over the years have substantially changed how the position is played. History Early formations, with six- and seven-man line defense, seven-man lines, used the end as a containment player, whose job was first to prevent an "end run" around his position, then secondarily to force plays inside. When most teams adopted a five-man line, two different styles of end play developed: "crashing" ends, who rushed into the backfield to disrupt plays, and "stand-up" or "waiting" ends, who played the more traditional containment style. Claude Humphrey
Claude B. Humphrey (June 29, 1944 – December 3, 2021) was an American professional football player who played as a defensive end in the National Football League (NFL) for the Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles. Humphrey was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014. He played college football at Tennessee State University. Professional career Humphrey was drafted out of Tennessee State University in the first round of the 1968 NFL Draft with the third overall choice by the Falcons. Humphrey was a little All-American in 1967.
