Jeff Robson (badminton)
Jeffrey Ellis Robson (30 September 1926 – 5 September 2022) was a New Zealand badminton and tennis player. Early life and family Born in Palmerston on 30 September 1926, Robson was the son of Maurice Alexander Robson, who later served as president of the New Zealand Badminton Federation between 1965 and 1967. He was educated at King's High School, Dunedin, where he represented the school in association football. In 1951, Robson graduated from the University of Otago with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery. In 1953, he married Heather Redwood, who also played international badminton for New Zealand. The couple had one child. Sporting career Badminton As a badminton player, Robson won nine New Zealand singles championships, seven national men's doubles and four mixed doubles titles. Tennis In tennis, Robson won the New Zealand men's singles title three times, in 1949, 1952 and 1956. Palmerston, New Zealand
The town of Palmerston, in New Zealand's South Island, lies 50 kilometres to the north of the city of Dunedin. It is the largest town in the Waihemo Ward of the Waitaki District, with a population of 890 residents. Palmerston grew at a major road junction: State Highway 1 links Dunedin and Waikouaiti to the south with Oamaru and Christchurch to the north, while State Highway 85 (known colloquially as "The Pigroot") heads inland to become the principal highway of the Maniototo. The Main South Line railway passes through the town and the Seasider tourist train travels from Dunedin to Palmerston and back once or twice a week. From 1880 until 1989, the town acted as the junction between the main line and a branch line that ran inland, the Dunback and Makareao Branches. New Zealand Sports Hall Of Fame
The New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame is an organisation commemorating New Zealand's greatest sporting triumphs. It was inaugurated as part of the New Zealand sesquicentenary celebrations in 1990. Some 160 members have been inducted into the Hall of Fame since its inception representing a wide variety of sports. Inductions are held regularly every second year. Since 1999, it has been located in Dunedin, in the city's Railway Station building, where a museum is sited displaying mementos of New Zealand's sporting achievements. Prior to this time the Hall of Fame was based in Wellington. The current chief executive of the Hall of Fame is sports writer Ron Palenski. After September 2021 the museum could have to close or move to another city unless a new sponsor was found.
