Jeff Jones (Welsh Politician)
Jeff Jones is a retired Labour Party politician from the town of Maesteg, Wales who rose to become Council Leader of Bridgend County Borough Council. He is known throughout South Wales as an outspoken local politician. Jones was brought up, the son of a miner and steelworker, in Maesteg. He studied political history at the London School of Economics. Jones was a councillor in Maesteg on the Mid Glamorgan County Council from 1981, initially for the Maesteg No. 2 ward, which became Maesteg East. From 1995 he became one of the two councillors for the Bridgend County Borough Council ward of Maesteg East. He retired from politics in 2004 before the Labour administration – which had held power since 1996 – was defeated by a coalition in the June 2004 council elections. 2004 Bridgend County Borough Council Election
The 2004 Bridgend County Borough Council election was held on Thursday 10 June 2004 to Bridgend County Borough Council, Wales. It took place on the same day as other council elections in Wales and England. It was preceded by the 1999 election and followed by the 2008 election. The election resulted in the Labour Party losing control of the council. Overview 54 council seats were up for election, across 39 electoral wards, a similar number to the previous election in 1999. Labour had a strong majority on the council prior to the election, though council leader Jeff Jones had recently stood down from his position. Maesteg Comprehensive School
Ysgol Maesteg School is an English language comprehensive school situated in the town of Maesteg in the South Wales Valleys of south-eastern Wales. The former and more commonly used name of the school is Maesteg Comprehensive School, or Ysgol Gyfun Maesteg. Its uniform shows the name as Ysgol Maesteg. As of September 2017, Maesteg Comprehensive School introduced a mobile phone ban to prevent cyberbullying and changed the uniform. Hywel Rhodri Morgan (29 September 1939 – 17 May 2017) was a Welsh Labour politician who was the First Minister of Wales and the Leader of Welsh Labour from 2000 to 2009. Maesteg
Maesteg is a town and community in Bridgend County Borough, Wales. Maesteg lies at the northernmost end of the Llynfi Valley, close to the border with Neath Port Talbot. In 2011, Maesteg had a population of 20,612. The English translation of Maesteg is 'fair field'. Historically a part of Glamorgan, the growth of the town started with the opening of ironworks in the 1820s, and 1830s. Once a coal mining area, the last pit closed in 1985. With the decline of the coal industry and, more recently, the closure of one large factory producing cosmetics and another manufacturing vehicle components, the valley has become a residential/dormitory area for the Port Talbot, Bridgend and Cardiff journey to work areas. 11% (1,867 out of 20,702) of the town's population speak Welsh with 27.9% of 3-15 year olds speaking the language. Mid Glamorgan County Council () was the upper-tier authority for the Welsh county of Mid Glamorgan between its creation in 1974 and its abolition in 1996.
