Jeanne Leclerc
Jeanne Leclerc (1868 – August 1914) was a French operatic soprano who made her début in Paris in 1888 as Aurore de Nevers in the première of Charles Grisart's ''Le Bossu''. From 1890 to 1905, she performed in a wide variety of soprano roles at the Opéra-Comique. She also appeared in Monte-Carlo and Covent Garden as well as in concerts at the Théâtre du Châtelet. Biography Born in Lille in 1868, Leclerc trained at the Paris Conservatory under Léon Duprez and Eugénie Vergin. She made her début in Paris at the Théâtre de la Gaîté on 19 March 1888 creating the role of Aurore de Nevers in the première of Charles Grisart's ''Le Bossu''. In November 1889 she was engaged by the Opéra-Comique where she first performed on 30 May 1890 in the première of André Messager's ''La Basoche'' as the First Young Girl. ''Carmen'' () is an opera in four acts by the French composer Georges Bizet. The libretto was written by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy, based on the Carmen (novella), novella of the same title by Prosper Mérimée. The opera was first performed by the Opéra-Comique in Paris on 3 March 1875, where its breaking of conventions shocked and scandalised its first audiences. Bizet died suddenly after the 33rd performance, unaware that the work would achieve international acclaim within the following ten years. Henri Maréchal
Henri Maréchal (22 January 1842 – 12 May 1924) was a French composer. Life Born in Paris, Maréchal studied music theory with Émile Chevé and Édouard Batiste and piano with Louis Chollet. On the advice of Alexis de Castillon, he entered the composition class of Victor Massé at the Conservatoire de Paris, where he also studied organ with François Benoist and counterpoint with Charles-Alexis Chauvet. In 1870 he won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome with the cantata ''Le Jugement de Dieu'' . After the stay in the villa Medici in Rome associated with the prize, he made his debut as a composer in Paris with the "poème sacré" ''La Nativité'' (1875). ''Lucia di Lammermoor'' () is a (tragic opera) in three acts by Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti. Salvadore Cammarano wrote the Italian-language libretto loosely based upon Sir Walter Scott's 1819 historical novel ''The Bride of Lammermoor''. Donizetti
Domenico Gaetano Maria Donizetti (29 November 1797 – 8 April 1848) was an Italian composer, best known for his almost 70 operas. Along with Gioachino Rossini and Vincenzo Bellini, he was a leading composer of the '' bel canto'' opera style during the first half of the nineteenth century and a probable influence on other composers such as Giuseppe Verdi. Donizetti was born in Bergamo in Lombardy. At an early age he was taken up by Simon Mayr who enrolled him with a full scholarship in a school which he had set up. There he received detailed musical training. Mayr was instrumental in obtaining a place for Donizetti at the Bologna Academy, where, at the age of 19, he wrote his first one-act opera, the comedy ''Il Pigmalione'', which may never have been performed during his lifetime. Théâtre De La Renaissance
The name Théâtre de la Renaissance has been used successively for three distinct Parisian theatre companies. The first two companies, which were short-lived enterprises in the 19th century, used the Salle Ventadour, now an office building on the Rue Méhul in the 2nd arrondissement. The current company was founded in 1873, and its much smaller theatre (pictured) was built that same year next to the Porte Saint-Martin at 20 boulevard Saint-Martin, in the 10th arrondissement. Isadore De Lara
Isidore de Lara, born Isidore Cohen (9 August 18582 September 1935), was an English composer and singer. After studying in Italy and France, he returned to England, where he taught for several years at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and became a well known singer and composer of art songs. In the early 1880s he began to compose music for the stage, eventually achieving his greatest successes with opera in Monte Carlo from the late 1890s through the outbreak of World War I. His most popular opera, '' Messaline'' (1899), enjoyed frequent revivals throughout Europe and in the United States during the first quarter of the 20th century.
