Jeanne Arcache
Jeanne Arcache (, 1902–1961) is a pioneer Lebanese Francophone poet, novelist, and journalist, who wrote for French-language periodicals in Egypt. Biography Arcache was born in 1902 in Alexandria to a Lebanese father and a French mother. She attended the ''Lycée Française'' in her native city and pursued an education in literature and music. Arcache wrote for several journals in Egypt, most notably the weekly ''Image'', ''La Semaine Egyptienne'', and the monthly ''La Revue du Caire''. Francophone Literature
Francophone literature is literature written in the French language. The existence of a plurality of literatures in the French language has been recognised, although the autonomy of these literatures is less defined than the plurality of literatures written in the English language. Writings in the French language from Belgium, Canada and Switzerland were recognised as belonging to distinct traditions long before writings from colonial territories of France. Writing in French by Africans was formerly classified as "colonial literature" and discussed as part of colonial studies for its ethnographical interest, rather than studied for its literary merit. Any texts in French from the colonies and territories that were considered to have merit were subsumed under the classification of French literature. Michel Chiha
Michel Chiha (1891–1954) was a Lebanese banker, a politician, writer and journalist. Along with Charles Corm, Petro Trad and Omar Daouk, he is considered one of the fathers of the Lebanese Constitution. His ideas and actions have had an important influence on the shaping of the modern Lebanon. Biography Early life and Studies Michel Chiha was born in 1891 in a Christian family of Bmakine, in the Aley District, in the Mount Lebanon Governorate. He hails from a Chaldean Christians, Chaldean family which have migrated from modern day Iraq. His father, Antoine, was a banker who has founded in 1876 the Pharaon and Chiha Bank in Beirut, Lebanon. Georges Schéhadé
Georges Schehadé (2 November 1905 – 17 January 1989) was a Lebanese playwright and poet writing in French. Life and career Georges Schehadé was born in Alexandria, Egypt, in an aristocratic Greek orthodox family of Lebanese origin but spent most of his life in Beirut, Lebanon. His sister was the novelist, Laurice Schehadé. He studied law at the American University of Beirut and became a general secretary at the ''Ecole Supérieure de Lettres'' in 1945. In 1930, Saint-John Perse published Schehadé's first poems in the literary magazine ''Commerce''. During his first travel to Europe in 1933 he met Max Jacob and Jules Supervielle. After World War II, he frequently stayed in Paris where he sympathized with the Surrealists, especially with André Breton and Benjamin Péret. Alfred Naqqache
Alfred Georges Naccache (or Naqqache) ( ar, ألفرد جورج النقاش; 3 May 1888– 26 September 1978) was a Lebanese Maronite statesman, Prime Minister and head of state during the French Mandate of Lebanon. In 1919 he contributed to '' La Revue Phénicienne'' which was established by Charles Corm in Beirut. He was serving as Prime Minister when he was appointed president by the French authorities after the resignation of Emile Edde.
