Jean Genchi
Jean Genchi née Jean Guppy (born 25 September 1956) is a former British rower who competed at the 1984 Summer Olympics. Rowing career Genchi started rowing in 1973 with the Stuart Ladies Rowing Club and as part of the junior fours the club won a title at the 1973 National Championships. Called up by the Great Britain squad in 1974 at the age of 17, she competed in the eight at the 1975 World Rowing Championships in Nottingham the following year. She was part of the coxed four that won the national title at the 1978 National Rowing Championships. The following year she was selected by Great Britain at the 1979 World Rowing Championships and a third World Championships appearance ensued in 1983. In 1984, Genchi was selected for the Great Britain team in the women's coxed four event. Rowing (sport)
Rowing, sometimes called crew in the United States, is the sport of racing boats using oars. It differs from paddling sports in that rowing oars are attached to the boat using oarlocks, while paddles are not connected to the boat. Rowing is divided into two disciplines: sculling and sweep rowing. In sculling, each rower holds two oars—one in each hand, while in sweep rowing each rower holds one oar with both hands. There are several boat classes in which athletes may compete, ranging from single sculls, occupied by one person, to shells with eight rowers and a coxswain, called eights. There are a wide variety of course types and formats of racing, but most elite and championship level racing is conducted on calm water courses long with several lanes marked using buoys. Kathryn Katie Ball (born 8 June 1963) is a former British rower who competed at the 1984 Summer Olympics. Rowing career Ball began rowing as a teenager at for Broxbourne Rowing Club. She was selected for the 1979 FISA Junior Championships but fell ill and did not compete. However the following year she did row in the 1980 and 1981 FISA Junior Championships. Ball was part of the coxless fours crew, with Tessa Millar, Kareen Marwick, Kate McNicol and Sue Bailey, that won the national title rowing for the A.R.A Squad, at the 1983 National Rowing Championships which led to selection for the Great Britain team at the 1983 World Rowing Championships. Sons Of The Thames
Sons of the Thames is a rowing club in Hammersmith, London, England. It was formed in Putney in 1886 with the aim, still enshrined in its constitution, to further the sport of rowing. History Originally a tradesmen's club, thus open to those in manual work, that boated from Erith, the club by the date of its formal constitution had moved up river to Putney, boating from the Duke's Head, and then to Hammersmith. The latest move, since 2000, shares there Linden House, on the promenade known as Upper Mall, with London Corinthian Sailing Club. The sailing club enjoys a 999-year lease. The club welcomes novices and offers a Learn to Row course each summer. More experienced members and graduates moving on from university boat clubs are also very welcome and will be integrated into the training squads for Henley and other regattas. Kathryn 'Kate' Holroyd (born 5 June 1963) is a retired British rower. Rowing career Holroyd competed in the women's eight event at the 1984 Summer Olympics. The team finished in eighth place. The following year Holroyd was part of the double sculls crew with Jean Genchi that won the national title in a dead-heat with Sons of the Thames, rowing for Bradford Amateur Rowing Club, at the 1985 National Rowing Championships.
