Jean Dubois (Milmort, 13 August 1914 – Sclessin, 9 June 2005) was a Belgian sprint canoeist who competed in the late 1940s. In 1939 (during universal exhibition in Liege city) he was world champion. This is why he was selected for London Olympics after the war. Jean Marie Joseph François Dubois (4 October 1926 – 28 January 2021) was a Belgian field hockey player who competed in four summer Olympics between 1948 and 1960. At the 1948 Summer Olympics in London, his team placed a tied 7th in a field of 13. At the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, he had his best result when his team placed an equal 5th in a field of 13. At the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, his team placed 7th out of a field of 12. At his final Olympic Games in 1960 It is also known as the "Year of Africa" because of major events—particularly the independence of seventeen African nations—that focused global attention on the continent and intensified feelings of Pan-Africanism. John Dubois
John Dubois (french: Jean Dubois) served as the third bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of New York from 1826 until his death in 1842. He was the first Bishop of New York who was not Irish-born and, as of 2021, remains the only Bishop or Archbishop of New York who was not either of Irish birth or of Irish ancestry. Life Early life Dubois was born in Paris, France, on August 24, 1764. After theological studies at the Oratorian Seminary of Saint-Magloire in Paris, Dubois was ordained a priest on September 22, 1787, by Antoine-Eléonore-Léon Le Clerc de Juigné, the Archbishop of Paris. Abbé J. A. Dubois or Jean-Antoine Dubois (January 1765 – 17 February 1848) was a French Catholic missionary in India, and member of the '' Missions Etrangères de Paris''; he was called Dodda Swami by the local people. In his work on Hindu manners, customs and traditions he presented Indian cultures, traditions, thoughts and the ''varnasrama'' system. He returned to France, and authored a book of Indology, ''Hindu Manners, Customs and Ceremonies''. Dubois is remembered in India for having adopted the way of life, clothing, vegetarianism and language typical of a Hindu monk or renunciate, and earning trust and respect. He failed, however, in his mission of converting Indians to Christianity; and often expressed the opinion that the project was doomed to failure.
