Jean-Simon Roy
Jean-Simon Roy (born November 20, 1993) is a former professional Canadian football offensive lineman. He is a two-time Vanier Cup champion, having won with the Laval Rouge et Or in 2013 and 2016. College career Roy played U Sports football for the Laval Rouge et Or from 2013 to 2016. He was a member of the 49th Vanier Cup championship team in his rookie year and also won the 52nd Vanier Cup in his final year in 2016. He was also named a U Sports First Team All-Canadian in 2016 at the offensive tackle position. Professional career Edmonton Eskimos In the 2017 CFL Draft, Roy was selected in the second round, 14th overall, by the Edmonton Eskimos and signed with the team on May 25, 2017. He began the season on the injured list before moving to the reserve roster for two games. Offensive Lineman
In gridiron football, a lineman is a player who specializes in play at the line of scrimmage. The linemen of the team currently in possession of the ball are the offensive line, while linemen on the opposing team are the defensive line. A number of NFL rules specifically address restrictions and requirements for the offensive line, whose job is to help protect the quarterback from getting sacked for a loss, or worse, fumbling. 2017 CFL Draft
The 2017 CFL Draft took place on Sunday May 7, 2017 at 7:00 PM ET on TSN and RDS. 71 players were chosen from among eligible players from Canadian universities, as well as Canadian players playing in the NCAA. The draft was broadcast live on TSN for two hours and then subsequent coverage shifted to digital platforms on TSN.ca and TSN GO. The production was hosted by Farhan Lalji and featured the CFL on TSN panel which included Duane Forde, Chris Schultz, Dave Naylor, and Marshall Ferguson. 2020 CFL Season
The 2020 CFL season would have been the 67th season of modern-day Canadian football. Officially, it would have been the 63rd season of the Canadian Football League. It was originally scheduled to begin on June 11; on April 7, the start of the season was delayed to begin no sooner than July due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada. The CFL planned to obtain financial assistance from the federal government. In May, the CFL delayed the season to no sooner than September, and announced that the Grey Cup was to be played as a home advantage game rather than as a neutral site game in Regina, Saskatchewan, as originally planned. 2019 BC Lions Season
The 2019 BC Lions season was the 62nd season for the team in the Canadian Football League (CFL) and their 66th overall. The Lions were eliminated from post-season contention following a week 18 loss to the Edmonton Eskimos on October 12, 2019. The Lions played without Wally Buono as head coach or general manager for the first time since the 2002 season following his final appearance last year. Buono was replaced as head coach by DeVone Claybrooks, who entered his first season as a head coach and is the 26th head coach in franchise history. This was the fourth season under head coach Jason Maas and the third season under general manager Brock Sunderland. The team finished with an 8–10 record and fourth in the West Division. The Edmonton Eskimos season was the 61st season for the team in the Canadian Football League and their 70th overall. This was the third season under head coach Jason Maas and the second season under general manager Brock Sunderland. The team began the season with a 6–3 win–loss record, but after losing six of the following eight games, the Eskimos were eliminated from the playoffs during their week 20 bye after Winnipeg defeated Calgary to claim the final playoff spot. The Eskimos failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2013, becoming the first Grey Cup hosts to miss the playoffs since the 2016 Toronto Argonauts.
